Nikki and Paolo's Fate

Sawyer pulled a fast one.  He switched the rhinestones off Nikki's bikini for the diamonds.  (Just a feeling I have).  Sawyer is heading towards some bigtime cosmic karma.

I kinda feel bad to a tiny extent that they killed Paolo... he was ALMOST getting interesting... But my overwhelming joy from the death of Nikki is greater

The thing I'm wondering is... If Pablo got bit by the Medusa spiders before Nina (Ya gotta love the  Sawyerism)     then why did she "come to" before him?  And were these also marathon sprinting spiders, because they were gone by the time Sayid, Hurley and Sawyer went and found Paolo.
