HOW COULD JACK LEAVE WHEN THE SURVIVORS NEED HIM?
« on: March 23, 2007, 12:10:00 AM »
He is all chummy with the Others but tells Kate that he will come back for her.  Why wouldn't he ask the Other's why they stay on this island?  Why would he leave without knowing the answer?

Presumably, the Others have told him that nobody can leave the island.  But, why is that?

If you could leave and thought you could bring back help, wouldn't you do it?
Sawyer, Michael, Walt and Jin all went out on a raft at the end of the first season.
This time, Jack was taking a submarine straight to civilization.

Don't fault Jack for trying to save everyone.

I was puzzled as to why he suggested he'd come back for her instead of inviting her and Sayid along. It's not like it was a two man sub.

They wouldn't have let Sayid and Kate go.  That wasn't part of the deal.  Ben wouldn't have even been letting Jack go if it wouldn't make him look bad to go back on the deal or to just kill Jack.

I think Jack feels like the Others just have too big of an advantage over the Losties, and the only way to get the Losties off the Island is to b ring in some outside help.  I think he believes that they can't overthrow the Others on their home turf without some help.

i think the outcome of the show will not be overcoming the others but joining them.

i suppose I was puzzled also that Kate didn't suggest going with him. She can be fairly Machiavellian in her approach to life. Then again, she has good reason for not particularly wanting to leave too.
