The clock says 3:25---then why was it dark outside, like it was evening time or something.

The Others don't seem like the type of people who can't fix a broken clock.

I think it is dark at 3:25 AM
They waited until way late to go in

If they waited until 3:25am, then that is a long time from when the sun would go down.
I think it is just an error.

Painted picture looks like Juliette to me, the pictures of the girl is of
Tania Raymonde Helen Katz aka Tania Raymonde aka Alex Rousseau.

Most military night operations are done at 4am because thats the time when people will least expect it, there is a more in depth reason but I can't be arsed trying to remember it all but the gist is 4am=less alert people. Sayid and Locke are both military mided, Sayid cos he was in the military and Locke.. well because of his fascination with knives and survival in the wild and stuff, I'm sure they'd know these things and use it to their advantage. Just me 2 cents on why they waited so late

I think the woman in the portrait could be Karen Degroots.  It looks a lot like her.  Maybe the DeGroots are Ben's biological parents??  That could explain why he would have been born on the island.  Although, it would give us nothing if "Linus" is his real last name.  Linus could be his middle name, though.  Ben seems like he could be momma's-boy enough to have a pic of mommy in the house.

Hi, regarding the clock & time:

1) Why is everyone awake/dressed (minus Ben in PJ's) at that hour? Or is it earlier than we all think?
2) Is there a jump(s) in time during one scene, when Alex comes back with the pack? I could swear time jumps forward or am I seeing things?

I also side with the painting of Ben's mother, since there doesn't seem to be any photos of his parents at all.

I think these people are more military minded like, i.e. they'll be some people on duty looking after things, and most will be asleep, you just didn't see the sleeping ones. Well thats what I think anyway. Don't think it's a prop error or time jumping.

I just realised I've not actually said anything to do with the picture, to be honest I gots no clue who it could be.

Thanks Psych0666 for clearing that up, does make sense! Jack & Juliette were awake because they were leaving the island. I just looked at the portrait again, noticed the red flowers in it.

The Others were invaded by people that night. They were on high alert because the caught intruders. It was not a normal night.

It stopped being a normal night when they saw Kate on the camera, but before that it was normal, so I reckon the people on duty, so to speak, saw Kate, and then started some kind of alert procedure, that's when people got up and dressed, but I bet it wasn't the whole camp, just the people on call or something, I think the whole thing for that kinda **** is very military based, I mean look at what happened when the plane crashed, all action, pre-prepared scenarios and all that jazz, same thing here.... Oh man what am I talking about, msn interrupted me and now I've lost it all

The portrait is Karen DeGroot

There is almost no mistaking it!!

The pic is paying tribute to the "Eve" of the island, in my opinion.
