Do you envision 'the island' finally taking over and killing Charlie in a way taht Desmond cannot predict or avoid?

I dont really think it is the island trying to kill him. BUT i do think desmond will get lazy and charlie will die from that.

His other travels were before the hatch blew. Des didn't have sight until after the hatch blew.

Perhaps Dez just has the ability (now) to recognize it's his turn to save Charlie.  Lets face it he could have died several times already - a drug overdose before he got clean.
In that sense of things Locke saved his life, Jack and Kate saved him from hanging, Sayiad used gun powder to keep him from bleeding to death.  I think perhaps Charlie is like a cockroach - he'll never die.  Sooner or later it will be someone else's turn to save him.
