In this episode, Charlie's life was once again saved by Desmond. Now a big question i have is why didn't charlie die earlier? He has been on the island for like, 80 days or something...And within the last week or so he has almost died about three times. The only thing keeping him alive is Desmond intervening with death, and course correcting will keep on putting Charlie in danger of dying. Why didn't Charlie die earlier in the show? He used to go on the adventures in the jungle and was in many deadly situations. All this time, there was no Desmond to help him. So when was the first situation where Charlie was supossed to die and someoned saved him??? Was it when he was hanging in the jungle and Jack was able to ressucitate him? Or was it earlier in his life, and maybe the crash was a result of course correcting? I just want to hear some thoughts on this. Thanks.

My thought on it is that everyone has an "appointed time."  Charlie didn't need protection before, because it wasn't yet "his time."  Now, however, he's living on borrowed time. Undecided  Des is only postponing the inevitable.

Youre probably right, i was kind of thinking of a more 'final destination' kind of death plan.

I've heard that movie referenced a few times.  Maybe I should see it. Undecided Smiley

there are three of them. Pretty gorey and slightly boring, though. The death plan is kind of related.

I think his time to die was when Des first saved him from the lightning,  therefore that was the first time he needed someone to save him.

Yeah. now it is just a matter of time before Desmond gets tired of saving Charlie. He will die no matter what.

I think there will be one time where he does not save him but he does not die.  This will be along time fromnow but will prove something that i have not fully thought out yet.

Umm...i don;t see where you are going with that but i listen to most theories that make some sense. Just post it when you figure it out. I dont think Desmond is lying though...(not saying you did/will say that, just my opinion.)

Jack and Kate cutting Charlie down after being hung by Ethan would probably be the first time in my eyes...perhaps Locke getting Charlie to get rid of the drugs and go straight was the second time (he could have been meant to die of an overdose since the hanging didn't go through).

good idea. i like the hanging part though, b/c he would have died if Jack didnt puond on him in anger.

I don't think so. They are stranded in a island without communication, no appointments, and no fun. Saving a guy's life over and over seems to me a very nice hobby in that situation.

Smokey turned into Locke. That gave him the power of being always right. Hence he is the good one, winner of game and everything else for now on.

Do you think the same thing was true of Eko, being his time to die?  They pulled him out of the bear's cave, but then smokie took him.

Do you envision 'the island' finally taking over and killing Charlie in a way taht Desmond cannot predict or avoid?

I keep going back to the song that Charlie was singing in Des's flashback.  Wonderwall by Oasis.  It says...

Because maybe
You're gonna be the one who saves me ?

I think that Des may ultimately die trying to save Charlie, however...
I have read that this is Dominic Monaghan's (sp?) last season with the cast. Sad
I just think that when it's time, it's time.  The universe will "course correct."
