When Patchy was explaining to Sayid how he came to this island, it just struck me as a large resembalance to Kelvin's background before his arrival also.
Did the Dharma employers want those with a military background? Probably not a great significance, yet it just seems interesting.

Patchy and Kelvin both referrred to them as "hostiles", which I find interesting. You'd think the Others plan would always be to convince strandeds (new word coined?) that they are The Good Guys and they wouldn't use such a term. The fact that Kelvin used the same term may be coincidence, or it may be that he, too, was complicit with the Others' plans.

I will go along with the idea that Kelvin was an other also. THe purge took out all of dharma. The word Hostiles is used to scare the losties to stay on their beach. It has not worked. Using it is part of their protocol.

I was thinking about adding Danielle to the list of "hostile" users, but I wasn't sure if she did or not.
Did she introduce the term "Others", or was that the Tailies?
edit: Oh yeah. Marvin says "hostiles" in the Enter 77 message. It goes way back I guess.

But was Kelvin really Dharma??
1-Patchy said that they waged a war and Dharma was killed off...that could still hold some truth. 2-The Others knew the Swan existed. Why would the Swan be left alone? Maybe Kelvin was an planted like Patchy was.

Why does Patchy shout 'I didn't cross the line, we had a truce, this is my land, you said I could stay here' after shooting Sayid? If he is an 'other', surely he must be significantly outside their little ring.

That seems to be the most fitting for me, and Patchy has had a major fall-out with the Hostiles or something...

Didn't Desmond use the word hostiles the day he came back to the beach in his sail boat drunk? If he did, then that must of been influenced by Kelvin

I hated this episode because this is a conclusion they wanted you to come to. Kelvin being an Other? Good Grief! Kelvin had the sailboat and Ben didn't know about it. Patchy's fake background is just about the same as Kelvin's and even Saiyd's. Kelvin probably wasn't Dharma either, but not an Other.
