Russian AUDIO and TEXT(NEED TRANSLATION)
« on: March 08, 2007, 12:39:19 AM »
I'm still working on screencaps if someone would like to start breaking this down:

http://lost.cubit.net/pics/3x11/russianText.jpg

also, the audio from the conversation between Klugh and Mikhail:

http://lost.cubit.net/audio/3x11_Russian192K001.mp3

A buddy of mine told me the last two lines of the exchange were:

Klugh: Ti znayesh shto delaet.    (You know what to do)
Mikhail: sais prosti menye  (forgive me)

Let's get out best Russian people on this. Or, if someone could use an online translator...

Sorry, I posted up in the screencap thread.

The first underlined word is Andrea.  The next word is Nazi.  You can't read the whole sentence, but what is there translates to something like "not of the Nazi."

специалистом (another underlined word) = "by the specialist."

Thanks to Bob and Lostpedia for the rapid translation.

I think the letter just confirms that Mikhail was telling the truth about his past and how he got recruited and came to the island. He came with the others and not dharma.

My feeling is that he was telling many truths, but he was lying about which side he was on.

I found it interesting that his conversation with Ms. Klugh seemed to indicate that she was his superior.

Nadji? Mujahideen? Freedom fighters? (more clues from Mikhail's document)
« Reply #10 on: March 08, 2007, 01:48:54 PM »
From this screencap of Mikhail's document, a lot of translations came out.

I had a few thoughts when I saw it--first off, Nadji... is he the same Nadji as was a waiter in Sayid's flashback?  Also, does anyone remember what Sayid's own alias, which he used in Syria was?  I recall it being similar.

Also, I was wondering if someone with a little more background in Muslim history could discuss what the possible tie-ins of Muslim jihadists and Soviet Army might be to the story.  I think that the Afghani mujahideen did fight the Soviets at one point, correct?  Aren't they an ethnic minority that was suppressed?

And how might this relate to Sayid's past and tie him to Mikhail?

Sorry, more questions than answers this time, but I LOVED this episode. :)

translation:Mrs. Klugh: Mikheil, you know what to do.

Patchy: ...Do we have a chance?

Klugh: We can't risk it... you know the circumstances.

Patchy: ... there IS another way..

Klugh: You know what to do, that is an order.

Patchy:  We've GOT ANOTHER WAY!

Klugh: Do it Mikheil!

Patchy: I AM SORRY!  (Shoots Klugh)

I thought the use of the word Nadji in the document was interesting...but Sayid went by Nadjif (with the F).   There still could be a connection - but I think it probably has something to do with the Afghanistan stuff.

I've been muckin about with the translation of the first document and this is what I got using this website and a Russian keyboard:
http://translation2.paralink.com/lowres.asp

какой  то  мере  оттолкнул  андрея. наджи не был
what to a measure has pushed away that (Andreia). (Nadzhi) was notů.

(?ьганского) сопротивления однако он был отличным
(?) resistance, however it was excellent.

он был троюродным братом влиятельного
It was the second cousin influential

(?) контролировал одну из северо-запад(?)
(?) supervised one of north-west(?)

(?) специалистом, (?)
(?) the expert, (?)

where there are question marks I either couldn't discern the word or the total of it....

Here's the second document up to the handwriting:

компенсировал умом
compensated mind

и все радикалы того времени, (?)
and all the radicals of that time, (?)

верили в то, что они сдерживают запад и
trusted in that that they constrain the West and

(?) дорогу Аллаху, чтобы тот стер с лица земли неверных, в то
(?) road to Allah, in order to that ster from face of the earth of incorrect, into that

(?)как Андрей считал что падение Афганистана станет импульсом к
(?) as Andrey considered that falling of Afghanistan becomes an impulse to

(?)социальной революции
(?) social revolution

as you can see, the program I'm using threw in some odd words...interesting it mentions "road to Allah"

"Andrey" may refer to Ambassador Andrey I.Denisov, representative of the Russian Federation to the UN
