Hi guys,
I'm new here, so be kind!
All of you are so good at noticing little things in the plot - sort of like pieces in a jig-saw puzzle, but I haven't heard any mention of what I noticed after watching the last episode. Most of the characters whose lives have been featured in back-stories have rotten SOB fathers! Is this a coincidence? Do the writers have something against fathers, or is there more to it?
Just throwing it out - it's probably nothing!

You're right, of course. I can't see a connection, either. If there is one, it's really subtle!

i DO see a connection.  Lets see who has "father issues"?  Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Locke, Hurley, Claire, Charlie, Shannon (did), Ana Lucia, Eko (?speculative), Alex (new one on the list), hmmmm...  Desmond (future father-in-law), Sun, Jin, Walt, and because of Walt's problems we have Michael.  anyone else?  who am I missing?  I think there is definately a pattern/connection with our characters having father issues.  But where does that get us with the story?  Is it just a connection between them all?  or are these issues going to come to a head an show us why they are on the island, or some other mystery?

There is a pattern of creepy dads. Maybe they are all part of the conspiracy and the kids are the test subjects.

Can it be connected to why the survivors who were captured by the others are "watching"?  Watching the ones with terrible father figures?

Not Sawyer. His father was so fragile and powerless that killed himself on desperation. Her mother was the rotten one.

Smokey turned into Locke. That gave him the power of being always right. Hence he is the good one, winner of game and everything else for now on.

Still not a good father, He was not strong enough to live through what his wife did to raise his son. Plus he killed sawyers mother and himself.

He probably would have killed James (aka Sawyer), too, if he had found him.  Not a good daddy.

I agree....not a good dad, but the material point is that many, if not ALL of the Losties have "daddy issues" of some sort.

We'll find out.  Wink

She had "baby daddy" issues, though.  Undecided

I believe Claire has referred to not having a dad in her life. Is my memory correct or am I making something up. Many of us do speculate that Christian Shepard is Claires dad. But that is unknown.
