this trash has been here for how long?  i'm going to say, at least 3 years.  reason:  roger's jumper has a swan logo, desmond was in the swan for 3 years, yet never (as far as we know) saw roger.  he only knew of radzinsky (because kelvin told him) and kelvin.  he stayed in the swan to push the button because THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE to do it.  so, roger was gone by the time desmond got there.

Is that maybe why Kelvin thought there was a disease on the island?
Because anyone who ventured outside died?
it could be.  but that would mean that either a)kelvin knew he was dead, so he had been to the van, so why didn't he take the beer.  or b) roger left, never came back, so kelvin assumed he was dead, which why would he just think he ran away?
If Kelvin had been to the van, there was at least the map that he would have taken, instead of fingerpainting one on the wall.  I have zero sense of direction, so I don't know where the van was in relation to the hatch, but they did not find it in 60 days of pretty intense exploring.  Kelvin could only explore 108 minutes at a time until Des came along.

Kelvin didn't really believed that. Remember that he removed his protection suit to fix Des' boat?
Both Des and Kelvin took the shots JUST IN CASE.

I read this somewhere else, and it isn't my idea.

The island is making things on the island, and doesn't have a lot to go on.
That is why everything is Dharma brand.

Hugo needs to feel good about himself? Vincent "finds" the van and brings back the arm with the key. Hurley wanted to fix a car, and got a VW Bus to fix up.

Just think about how things/people just pop up.

I'm not sure I really believe this, but it is worth a thought.

Personally, I think Roger made trips from the Swan to the Arrow. He stopped to have a beer and Smokie whacked the van killing him. This would be a few years before Desmond arrived.

About Smokey whacking the VW, the only way I can imagine it happening is the monster hunting someone, and Roger unluckily parking in the way. The only way the vehicle to be in one piece after Smokey is if it was a collateral.

So obviously, concerning the trash, this was Roger's van and not one that was generally used for Dharma work.  Munching on Dharma bars as he does his rounds.

I imagine he could be the guy who brought the supplies to the hatch for the button pushers.  Then he holds back on the beer for himself, cause who are they gonna complain to about it?  Will they throw a note up the tube?

Could just be a regular old roll over accident. Not exactly nice driving conditions.

Wasn't the van closed up, btw?  How did Vincent get the arm?

Arm might of fallen out and been on the ground. The car window was opened. Might of been severed during the crash.

maybe smokie tipped the van over, pulled the body out, whacked him around a bit, decided he didn't like the taste of dharma beer on his breath, so he spit him back into the van, but the arm got stuck in his mouth (smokey is magnetic you know, and the arm was holding the key) so he had to get it out using a nearby tree as the toothpick.

okay i think the sleeping pills are kicking in.......

There was a window open, from where Jin and Hugo pulled Roger Workman.

Could "Roger" really be Kelvin? (the guy that was in the hatch before Desi got there?) Its just a jump suit, not really a photo ID to say I am roger?

I don't know, That body was really decomposed and even mummified on some parts. I don't think It's possible to happen in less than 3 months.

Yes, Des spent three years there. But Kelvin disappeared in the day of crash, after a serious wound on the head, dealt by Desmond. Unless you're talking about Radzinsky. But that guy died inside the hatch, and had a huge hole in his body, that made the stain on the hatch. Roger didn't had this type of wounds.
