I know I'm late, but wife just had a kid and we finally had the chance to watch "Tricia Tanaka" on the Tivo. (Gotta love alliteration.)

Anyway, there was clearly some meaning when Sawyer looked in the van and said "What's with all the recycling?" and then they showed the balled up paper (with grass and stuff in it) for a good second or more. There's no way they would have wasted that time for no reason.

I've been wracking my brain trying to come up with something... anyone have any idears?

Sledge, is it worth posting a cap of the trash in the investigations?

Three seasons that have dragged on barely showing us anything of real meat, and you don't think they are wasting time? just joking lol

Maybe it's just alluding to the fact they are selfconscience people.

I noticed there was some of different color, Pink and yellow. Seem to me that is a lot of files, all mixed up. as if someone searched through it. Perhaps if they make Sayid look it we can get some answers, because he is the only character with discernment to think on read that.

I think Roger "work man" was like a janitor and he picked up a load of trash from one of the offices and made a beer run on the way... when the bus flipped over all the trash fell about the van... made a mess... so for me it's the contents of someone's trash can... I'd love to get my hands on that trash!

okay, this is what i can't get over:

this trash has been here for how long?  i'm going to say, at least 3 years.  reason:  roger's jumper has a swan logo, desmond was in the swan for 3 years, yet never (as far as we know) saw roger.  he only knew of radzinsky (because kelvin told him) and kelvin.  he stayed in the swan to push the button because THERE WAS NO ONE ELSE to do it.  so, roger was gone by the time desmond got there.

so 3+ year old trash.  the picture shows lots of paper, and that paper looks fresh.  it looks like it hasn't been wet.  which it should have been because it rains LOTS here.  (and the van was on it's SIDE, so water could get in.)  there doesn't look to be discoloration, so what's up with the trash?  to me it looks like someone just threw a bunch of paper wads into a vw bus 5 minutes before the losties found it.  (and threw a little dirt & grass on it)

so what are everyone else's thoughts?

Wife commented on the same thing. For something like this, where they actually refer to it in the script and linger on it, I am 99.99% certain the paper looks exactly as the producers/director want them to look, not a prop error.

So... is the van a recent plant? Doesn't really feel that way to me. Did someone chuck the paper and map in there after the van had been sitting for a while? Or... is there nothing to this whole paper thing? I don't know, but something tells me it's going to come back.

Lastly, they have found amazing things that have survived in shipwrecks, underwater, for years and years. So, that could be, but I don't think so.

I was thinking about how pink & yellow are common colors for carbon copies.

So that might be the receipts of the beer?

Is that maybe why Kelvin thought there was a disease on the island?
Because anyone who ventured outside died?

it could be.  but that would mean that either a)kelvin knew he was dead, so he had been to the van, so why didn't he take the beer.  or b) roger left, never came back, so kelvin assumed he was dead, which why would he just think he ran away?
