I have an anagram generator and one of the ones that stuck out when i entered the name "Richard Alpert" was "Third Pearl Arc". Don't know if it means anything, but the creators said that "Not in Portland" contained an anagram that had to do with Adam and Eve and the white and black stones found in their hands in Season 1

In keeping with the trend of using philosphers as the origin of character names, Richard Alpert was a peer of Timothy Leary in the 1960s. He changed his name to Ram Dass.
