here is a web page on symbols http://www.symbols.com/encyclopedia/09/0914.htmlfrom what it says, the 6 pointed mark means earth/group/circle... a long line outside of that 6 point symbol means a deviation from the earth/group/circle...

It kind of looks like the Scientology Cross... heh, maybe The Others are rogue Scientologists trying to get in touch with the aliens...

Ok I'll say it looks like an upside down cross...which we all know is the symbol for St. Peter, who refused to be crucified as Christ, because he did not feel worthy to hang as Christ did. A symbol of humility.
Any thoughts or connections anyone?
also the hexegon has 6 sides

the mark actually looked to me like what people draw to signify which star is the north start.
The Jesus stick says lift up your eyes and look north. or something like that.
Also kind of like the hatch map.

From Lostpedia: Juliet's Mark could be a reference to the Mark of Cain, from the story of Cain and Abel. Genesis 4:15 - "And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him."

Both of those thoughts actually crossed my mind when I first watched it... I actually thought of the asterisk with a long line too... LOL! Anyway, I thought that the 6 lines might have had some similarity to the importance of the number 6 or the hexagon in the Dharma bagua symbols... Lastly, I think that the most important things we get out of Juliet's mark is: 1) she's alive, the Others spared her life; 2) it showed us that the Others had a system by which they judged the killing of one other, so there is some sort of ruling or governing system; and 3) Juliet getting a mark paralleled Jack's tattoos as a basis for being an outcast-leader thus propelling their relationship and co-dependence... That's all for now...
