Ok I'll say it looks like an upside down cross...which we all know is the symbol for St. Peter, who refused to be crucified as Christ, because he did not feel worthy to hang as Christ did. A symbol of humility.
also the hexegon has 6 sides
Both of those thoughts actually crossed my mind when I first watched it... I actually thought of the asterisk with a long line too... LOL!
Anyway, I thought that the 6 lines might have had some similarity to the importance of the number 6 or the hexagon in the Dharma bagua symbols...
Lastly, I think that the most important things we get out of Juliet's mark is: 1) she's alive, the Others spared her life; 2) it showed us that the Others had a system by which they judged the killing of one other, so there is some sort of ruling or governing system; and 3) Juliet getting a mark paralleled Jack's tattoos as a basis for being an outcast-leader thus propelling their relationship and co-dependence...
