I too wondered why we only saw one half of the tattoo...

The whole tattoo parlor scene actually made me think of the Maori (New Zealand) tattoing method with the ink pin and the stick tapping... but I still don't understand the importance of Jack ordering Achara (?) to "tell him who he is" and put it permanently on his arm... besides maybe the parallel with Juliet being "marked" and the two of them being former leaders and outcasts...

Basically, I don't get Achara's gift (I still have to think about this one)... and I don't get why those Thai hooligans and even the kid soda-vendor would treat Jack like a pariah after getting tattooed...

Achara (sp?) did mention there would be consequences, probably do to the "belief's" we are led to belive...i don't think it's as important as the parallel to Juliet...

there seems to be more and more flashbacks with people in them having special powers.

We think alike... I just started a topic about Achara as another flashback character with a so-called power :)

I think the woman made herself more and more mysterious to Jack and she kept on telling him she had a "gift" yet wouldn't let him know anything about her... curiosity got the cat... and he decided he wanted some of what she had... you know Jack he can be quite the bully sometimes when his honor/ego is at stake...

Well, he got what he wanted... why she relented... she did say she was afraid... maybe she was afraid of Jack at that time... maybe she had never seen him quite so demanding...

then again, I think she really liked Jack and wanted to give him what he wanted... even if meant they would never see each other again.

Or, maybe in her own anger at Jack for following her and being so demanding she thought he deserved the "consequences" of the tat... not meaning the beating, that was just a get out of town statement!

He walks amongst us but he is not one of us (Jack brand)

Isnt it strange Juliet is now branded, and she is one of them, but wants to return home and not walk among them?

OK, I just didn't get it.  Why were they so pissed off that she gave Jack the tattoo... does it give him some special power?

(I heard someone joke elsewhere that the tattoo means "kick my ass please")

Here's the literal translation, doesn't quite mean what she says it meant...

i don't understand why they were so mad either.  i wish the producers would have delved a little further into this.  it's not like they are ever going to tell us why, and if they do it will probably be in another yawner Jack episode.

Juliet's branding translates to:

"I am a fan of the Dead Kennedys"

....

did any of you notice the scene when Jack was on the beach about to get beat up by Acharas brother? Acharas brother pulled jacks sleeve up to see the tattoo, but its only half of the tattoo he has on the island, so when and where did he get the rest of it done?

this was a great point, & I thought, the meaning of the entire episode!

This can be seen in Jack & in Juliet.
