BUt he chose to stay on that path because he did not want "everyone here to die". Desmund used free will to save people.

Actually - in watching this epi again...the lady in the ring shop says that he has to turn the failsafe key or "the rest of US would die."  We've long talked about the whole "Us vs. Them"...

What if turning the key was to save the Others and not our survivors...?

Now that would just suck!!  LOL

I didn't record.  Did she actually say "turning the key" or "pushing the button" would save them.

what that woman said is not necessarily what the others/dharma believes.. we dont know what entity she is or who she barracks for.. so if there is no connection between them then its not really a contradiction, just a differing of ethos..

"...turn that failsafe key....or all of us will die..."

i dont even understand the the contradiction of which you speak.. but heres a humdinger for you..

in the sweat lodge locke's vision stated that desmond was "only looking after himself".. all desmond's actions since then have been helping charlie out.. is this not contradictory? or is desmond going one deeper and up to something else?? THAT is the reeeeel contradiction here..
