Is this the correct timeline for whatever Desmond is supposed to have experienced:
1) Desmond lives his normal life with Penny, up to and including the falling off the ladder while painting and having the meeting with her father.
2) Desmond walks out of her father's office, pissed off...throws his tie down...Penny meets him there (did he say that happened the first time?) and it starts to rain. Charlie is there as a street performer, but Desmond pays him no attention.
3) Desmond has lunch with his friend, but doesn't mention anything about time travel. His friend puts it in his mind that he should just go and marry Penny since he loves her.
4) Desmond goes by the Jewerly store, sees the same old lady, contemplates buying the ring...then changes his mind and walks out without buying it.
5) Des walks depressed to meet Penny, sees the military recruitment poster, and remembers what Mr. Widmore asked about him ever being in the military. He gets the idea to join in an effort to earn his respect and marry Penny (Des has self esteem issues lol).
6) Des meets Penny for lobster (lucky mf), they stop and get their photo taken.
7) Des then tells Penny that he has joined the military, and that they should put their relationship on hold until he returns and has earned her father's respect. Penny is heartbroken, and they split up. Before he goes off into the military, a copy of their photo is made so they both have one.
(*timeline will be broken here later...)
8 ) Des goes off to the military, where he ends up getting in trouble and court martialed (I think, right?). He's then discharged from the military.
9) Realizing he's f'd up his chance to gain Mr. Widmore's respect, he then decides on the last thing he can think of to do so: enter--and win--the Widmore sailing race around the world (or whatever).
10) Mr. Widmore offers to pay off Des (I think lol) to stay away from Penny. He refuses. Penny finds him, and he tells her that he's gonna win her fathers' stinkin' boat race, come back, and marry her.
11) Des crashes onto the Isle of Mystery.
12) Des pushes the button for 3 years, causes the plane to crash.
13) Des eventually comes to the point where he turns the failsafe key causing the hatch to implode and some strange electromagnetic anomoly to occur, sending him back in time (let this be a lesson to you, kids!).
(*timeline is broken here as well...Des relives Steps 1 - 7)
1A) Des wakes from his fall/concussion as if from a bad dream he can barely remember. He feels happy to have awakened, probably makes love to Penny several times (heh), and goes about his life.
2A) Des relives the meeting with Penny's father, walks out of Mr. Widmore's office....throws his tie down..and his attention is drawn to Charlie, who this time registers within his mind.
3A) He once again has lunch with his friend, but this time asks about time travel. His friend once again encourages him to just marry Penny.
4A) Des goes to the same jewerly store like before, sees the same woman like before, and contemplates buying the same ring like before...only this time, he doesn't walk out, and instead says he'll buy it. The old woman immediately tells him that that's not how it's supposed to happen, that he's not supposed to buy the ring and propose to Penny, that his path is already set and to not try and change it. She even plays on his self esteem issues with Mr. Widmore by saying that turning the failsafe key is the only "great thing" he'll ever do in his life...kind of an "ensurance trap" implanted in his head for when the time is right (Donnie Darko nod there lol).
5A) Des walks by the military recruitment poster like before, but THIS time he just keeps walking instead of joining up. Perhaps he remembers (vaguely) whatever troubles he had while there that lead to his court martial.
6A) He meets Penny like before, and they have their photo taken like before...
7A) Des doesn't tell Penny they'll have to hold off on their relationship while he goes off in an attempt to win her father's approval and respect, he just blows off the entire relationship as "not meant to be" now that he can "see" the future. Penny is heartbroken, as before...only there is no need for making a copy of the photo for while he's away, because for all she knows Des isn't going anywhere.
7B) Des goes to the pub, realizes his premonition from earlier is happening, sees the guy walk into the pub with the cricket bat (or whatever the hell it was)...tells the bartender to duck, gets hit in the head instead...and wakes up right after Step #13.
Ok, so if this is the timeline...would steps 8 - 13 have been effected by having steps 1 - 7 replaced?
