If the cages on alcatraz were for the polar bears, how did they get over to the Losties Island. Am I just assuming they swam....just a question.

joking, I assume the polar bears sprouted the genetically engineered wings that the DHARMA folks gave em, and they flew on over to the other island cause they smelled the delicious smell of fresh meat when the Losties arrived!

I mean I have seen a polar bear at the zoo swim about 25 yards, but not "a couple of miles" as Sawyer so succinctly put it.

this has already been discussed in like a billion other threads. they can swim very well. yes they probably swam to the other island. maybe the others took them there. maybe the aliens did it. who knows? only the writers.

Polar bears do swim a decent amount in the wild. I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem swimming that distance. If they didn't have any food, they would swim for another island. Or they could have been put on the main island on purpose.

That's true, but it just seems unlikely that they would swim to the other island... Humans swim too, but I doubt an untrained human would hop in the water and say "hell yeah I can swim two miles, no problem!" Right? Polar bears swim for FISH not for DISTANCE! Their habitat does not reside in the water! But ... just don't come at me and say "maybe the DHARMA people trained them to swim two miles!"

Maybe the polar bears didn't have to swim. Maybe there aren't two islands. Maybe that was just an illusion when Ben showed Sawyer the main island. Don't trust half of what you see and less than that of what you hear on Lost. Everything is straight forward or it is completly a huge mystery. Sometimes it is hard to figure out where we have been messed with by JJ.

Why not say the polar bears are holograms if you're gonna say the other island that WE SAW isn't there... Lets leave speculation out of this, shall we? The most likely scenario is: The other's dropped them on the other island for habitat observation... No way they swam two miles, again, if anyone can prove that polar bears can swim 2 miles, til then ... I ain't buyin it!

Interesting theory, but I disagree. There are two separate islands as far as I am concerned.

how about what ben showed sawyer was a real island or maybe a country or something.
I think there is one island that the others and the losties are on.
what was shown to sawyer can only be seen from the very most northern point of the island where the hydra station can be found.
