Kate tells Jack it is "something big" yet they are accomplishing it with the work of two castaways, and one in a flowy top?? Hmmm...
I'll refrain from expounding on my pet theory that they have vehicles and construction equipment of some kind...
But are there any engineers out there who could tell us what they might be preparing the ground for? For example, are they trying to put in a foundation? Or trying to level the ground? How big does the space have to be for a building/road/tower, etc? Any help or at least new discussion appreciated!!

If they had the construction equipment, wouldn't they use it to build whatever they are building.
Someone said runway which is interesting but not sure if it would fit on the island. It could be a foundation for a structure. Who knows?

I think that's part of the "front" they are now maintaining. They have continued to make the Losties believe that they had less than they have. Evidenced by the costumes and make-up they wore, and the fake huts and Dharma hatch they created for Michael.
I still maintain, could they really have built all those houses by hand? Seriously, those are modern houses. Who leveled the ground for all of those? Who poured the foundations and put in plumbing?
And why would they be building something with only 2 losties? Why not capture the whole camp if you really want something done? Like the Egyptians--now they knew how to build with manpower!

Just a thought, but maybe they're building Otherville2 on the Alcatraz Island to get away from 1) the crash victims, 2) wild animals, 3) smokie, 4) Nikki and Paulo, 5) French chick ,etc.
All these issues are crimping their style.

I first though: airplane landing but, because of the 4 toed statue, wondered if they were on an archaeology dig, although the pick swinging seems a bit crude for that!
How about searching for another Hatch!? This may point to the fact that Ben's crew are not Dharma and therefore, do not know where the infrastructure is or what else will be 'Found'...

I think a helicopter would be able to land without a specified heliport. I agreed with the idea of a runway until I remembered their island was shielded from any sort of radar signal unless a hatch button was pushed. It may be a proper hospital. I think whatever it is we are going to have to wait a long while to see it finished.
