If there are tunnels on the Island, mightn't there be some tunnels ono Alcatraz as well?

no that isnt logical.. the water table on the hydra island would be too inconvenient for deep excavation..

Joth's point is supported by the underwater hatch. Must be close to the surface. High water table then. Also a much smaller island, so less of a need for tunnels.

Very Good point, Jugdish... but I still think it would be easier to go under the hills than over them (Sawyer hikes up hills in EMFH, of course, these were right next to the shore)
