Arzt--that reminds me--there have been stupid characters before.  Hoping this set are going to meet their end soon as well...or melt back into obscurity at the very least...

I can't decide if it's just the writing or if their acting is just that bad!

I think many of us are holding on to the hope that TPTB will pull another "Artz" and kill off an incredibly annoying character (or two) to simply appease the viewers afterwards. The only problems are:

1) The character of Artz was written as annoying, but was deftly played by a skilled actor. I maintain that, partly because of a brilliant setup by the writers, Artz blowing up was the funniest moment in all of Lost. Meanwhile, these two Johnny-come-latelys are backed by what appear to be two weak actors (with weak writing to support them):
"When were you planning on telling us this, Hurley? (Glass Ballerina)" *obnoxious smack*
"What's Eko looking for?" "His brother's body's in that plane. (TCOL) *Captain Obvious smack*
"The toilet still works. (TCOL)" *painful attempt at comic relief smack*

The other reason that I don't hold much hope for these red-shirts annoying us till they die:
2) It's already been done.

Here's hoping I'm wrong...

Also the new horrible actor who plays Palua is a big star in Brazil and it was a big deal for them to get him. I think he was promised a big role. Hopefully the writing/acting gets better for these two or the smoke monster will get a chance to have a talk with them.

In terms of the whole "scientific explanation" debate, I think what they meant was less that it was a totally rational happens-all-the-time sort of thing, and more that it's not totally out of the blue. In other words, that it isn't just a "smoke monster," and that there is something to do with physics and science in its conception.

Basically, I don't think their comment means the monster has a chemical equation.  :P

Definetly sounds like it has a mechanical component.

i have a bit of trouble with the idea that smokie is part mechanical
ther ewas a scene in this last epi that was very breif but smokie was in the back ground and very small
not at all like the large cloud we have come to know it

for now i will go with a physic projection of some kind

I agree that it is hard to figure out. It was small, it was huge, it was Yemi. WTF

Exactly   even tho we hear mechanical noises  it seems to be able to change size shape even texture  at will

i will scratch my head on this for a long time i am sure

Sounds make nosense to what it does as it travels through the jungle. ANd if it is mechanical  then how does it take the form of a person.

No clue on what it really is.

hearing what you guys are saying makes me not feel so bad.  lol

2 of the most respected guys on this site scratching their heads.   :)

My theory on Smoky so far is that it's an intelligent bio-mechanical experiment that got out of control.  Tomorrow it will be something different. :)

I listen to what you have to say, too, Johnny. :)  I hate to say it, but some of the other posters on here.... ::)  j/k

Anyway... :)...I think the producers have already denied nano-technology/ "smart dust," etc.

This show has class and definate everydayism to it, UNTIL, smokey goes flying past as a "rollercoaster" sounding tid bit, and then manifests itself into a cheech and chong bongcloud size mirage that has vision data playback screens, can pick up objects(say 1000 lb tree stumps and toss them out of the way, 250lb eko barbie dolls and god knows what else its destroyed on its daily romps across craphole island).. so ill be over there --------------------------------------------------------------> on the bench eating oranges and scratching my head as to WTF smokey is or wants or does or sleeps.... would have preferred they never had smokey anyway... does anyone else have problems explaining to there friends who are just starting to watch lost WTF it is...
