Remember, when Locke and Boone find Goldie, Locke says it is hard to estimate how long the body has been there. I believe he says it could be anywhere from "two to ten years". So, it is definitely implied that the plane crashed on the island well before Flight 815 did. Ah, found it:

S1E19
Locke:   Normally clothing would completely decompose within 2 years, but this is high quality polyester... could be 2 years, could be 10. Gold teeth... obviously well off.
Oh, ok. I'll go check that again. Thanks! (At least it's in Season one.)

The addition of the writers' assertion that time is different on the Island as opposed to "real life" time is what intrigued me--and what brought this question about.  Sorry I didn't include that in the original post.  Interestingly enough, time is supposed to be LONGER on the island than in the outside world...so it does still beg the question of the timeline we think we may have established for the Beechcraft.

thanks, and cheers!

Could time be different for different parts of the island? Such as: in the Hatch, time passes slower than on the beach? (Obviously this is not the case, as we have seen that.)
