Wooo, I got second place! Way better than I ever did last year!  ;D I was hesistant about submitting since it seemed too easy, but now I'm glad I did! I figured out that you should take the first letter of the blacked out words right away, but without punctuation and a space, at first I thought we should be looking for some guy called Craig Slist.

Glad I didn't rush home to get a start on this - next week I'll plan better.

As for ASCII decoding, I use word or excel, hold down ATL while typing the numbers.  Decodes it automaticall.

How do you do OCTAL ASCII decoding while holding down the Alt key?

HOLD Alt while typing the number on your numeric 10 key...

ex:

ALT+130 = , ALT+13 = ♪

That gives you a DECIMAL decoding, not an OCTAL decoding... I guess you could convert to DECIMAL first then do the Alt key thing, but that is time-consuming and mistake prone... I'd perfer a straight OCTAL decoding tool over that...

ALT+130 = , but if 130 is octal then in decimal it is 1*64+3*8+0 = 88, so ALT+88 = X
13 oct = 11 dec ALT+11 = ♂

The point is, the clue given in the HUNT was in octal not decimal, so it wasn't as simple as holding the ALT key down and typing the number.

I didn't play that close attention when i posted my first comment - but that's for clarifying that for the future.
