And fundementally what was funny about the alternative time line was who was in it and who was Jack perhaps close to or better yet whom was Jack suppose to touch. As we see in the final scenes the folks he most interacted with or whom he thought were important were in those scenes and perhaps some reality.
We never see in the alternative time line Aaron being born. Kate was never really drawn out on her "conviction" it just appeared that she got caught for the sheer purpose of making sure they all were tied together in the end.
