If there were and they ended up on the island, it sure would make for great spin-off...

Everybody died.
Eventually, Kate, Saywer, lapidus, miles, claire all went on and lived lives off the island for varying degrees of time.

How do you get there?  Yes, they were all on the flight that Jack saw leave, but that flight never happened - - it was all in his head.  No flight, no plane to take them away, no survivors.

no it wasn't all in his head! everything since season 1 has happened. the sideways stuff was just everybody getting back together after they died at the various points in their lives

So are the flash-backs and flash-sideways relevant? The stories that connected everyone wouldn't have been possible if some of the characters had been living in reality and eventually died.

all the flashbacks happened. the sideways thing only happened when they died at different points in their lives, hence Christian's line about there being no time in the sideways universe thing

They couldn't have all died in the crash. Then Ben wouldn't be real, or Juliette, or any of the cast from the freighter. Ben even told Hurley "you were a good #1" meaning that he had to have actually been the replacement for some amount of time.

As seen with the shows credits, everyone aboard 815 died.  Ben, Juliet, Richard, etc died at other points in time.  Everything on the island was real and happened, but their all dead.

What are these credits/crash sequence people keep mentioning? The video I watched came up LOST, then bad robot and that was it.

The showed the plane on the beach at the end when they rolled the credit. The crash of the plane.

People are misrepresenting this. It was just the wreckage. This happened. jack and company survived. Lived on the island, left the island came back. It all happened. Go back and watch Christian's last speech. They lived the life we saw, but needed each other in the afterlife to move on. They did not all die at once. They died over a long period of time.

I like to think that they all died a horrible burn related or impale related death at the moment season 1 started and that all that stuff was in that psycho Jack's head....I honestly hated the finally.... ~_~

I think you can interpret it both ways.

You can argue that they had to survive as otherwise Hurley would not have met Ben and said he was a good #2 before he went to 'heaven'. Alternatively, you can listen to John's dad a few series ago when "the island is a little hot for heaven" and when Jacob said he brought them all to the island as they were all "flawed", thus the island was a test to see who got to go to 'heaven' and who didn't.

So the island events did happen either way.

The plane crashed, they survived, the island events happened, they died on the island over a period of time, they went to the 'alternate' holding area until they saw their 'love flashbacks' and went to heaven.
or
The plane crashed, they all died, the island events happened to test if they were good or bad, they 'died' (ie: their test ended and could leave the test) and went to the 'alternate' holding area until they saw their 'love flashbacks' and went to heaven.

So to move on they needed the island whether they survived the plane crash or not.

So that was the Oceanic plane on the beach at the end for sure?  Someone had suggested it was Lapidus'/Kate's/etc. plane.  I didn't watch closely enough to say.

It was DEFINATELY Oceanic. This story happened. They all crashed on the Island our Losties survived, and played out their story.
