He will put them all on a plane and fly towards the island. Island Des will pull the ring of hope that is in the cave of shadows causing the island to jump through time and space, this will cause everyone except Jack and Des to be killed from the electro magnetic fields. The island will cross over to the Alt timeline and come to rest just in time for the plane to crash/land on it. Where Jack and David will rule the galaxy as father and son. (insert Darth Vader breathing sounds)

Although, knowing the island is underwater in the sideways universe and MIB said he's going to destroy the island...

how do we get to a sunken island with the info we've been given tonight?

Desmond walks into the light causing it to burn so bright that it sinks the island sending the souls of the losties into the sideways universe forever?

MIB's plan is to leave the island and also destroy it.  Desmond WILL destroy the island, but BEFORE MIB can escape.  Then, since Desmond is the 'constant' and is the only one fully aware in BOTH timelines, he will bring everyone together in the ATL and somehow allow them to also 'let go' of the other timeline and become completely aware in this one, so that even though they may have perished on the island, they will retain their memories and who they were.  That way, they weren't really lost at all and the two timelines will have become one, if only for them.  Desmond had told Hurley that AnaLucia wasn't coming with them because she wasn't ready yet, the same thing Eloise had said to Desmond.  For now, he is just nudging the characters that matter, to the story and to us the viewers.

Sounds good to me

Question: I know Desmond is aware of the island time as well the the present time, but....
How did he know the coffin was missing?

He was on the flight so may have seen Jack. He also had Minkowsi working on getting the flight manifest who may have found it out. Or it could be that Desmond is special!

Two things...
1. I don't think Desmond really needs EVERYONE to be there. I think the candidates are necessities and anyone else is just noise and coincidence.
2. I am really curious as to how this will play out, especially with Sayid (we haven't been shown any Sun/Jin stuff with Desmond in the Alt) because he's dead in the island timeline, but alive in the Alt.

1. If Desmond destroying the island is a "good" thing overall and causes the death of the Losties that are on the island in the 1st timeline, then why the hell does Jack (or anyone) need to become the island's protector? lol...It would be like getting laid off 2 days after taking a new job because they were planning on downsizing all along.

2. Why did Sayid tell Jack that he needed Desmond, if Desmond's main purpose is to destroy the island?

3. Who let Desmond out of the well?

When Widmore said failsafe, I assumed he meant that Desmond would be able go into the light and be able to survive it..

Desmond's destiny is to drag MIB back into the light, but this time to trap the SMoke within.  Desmond's resistance to EMP has to make him some sort of delivery system.

Didn't they say that Penny was a musician?  Maybe she is the mother!!!

Penny is not the musician.  Daniel is.

Yeah.  It occurred to me that they might be going for a Star Trek "What Of Lazarus?" ending where Desmond and MIB are trapped forever in some kind of limbo for the good of both universes or something.  Hope that's not exactly where they're headed.
