I think I might have figured out "The Loophole"
« on: May 13, 2010, 03:30:50 PM »
Okay, this just came to me a little while ago, thanks to something nomteticus said. His intention might be completely different than what I thought he was saying, but regardless, what he said sparked the thought, so here it goes...

Apparently, only the island protector can find the cave. So yeah, if Jack will be the new island protector he could lead Desmond to the cave, and Desmond could fool Smokey into entering the cave after him.
The only problem is I don't want Smokey to die, I want him to escape.  :)

Okay, so that is what was said, and this is the thought it put into my head.

-Now let's go with the idea that only the island protector can find/see "The Light".

-IF that's the case, then I think John Locke was originally suppossed to be the one who takes over the role of protector because when he saw Smokey waaaaaaaaay back in S1, he said that he saw a beautiful light blah blah blah (I'm not going to do the exact quote, because we all should know what I'm talking about).

-So MiB went into the cave where the light was (how he got there, and his condition when he got there is not relevant). Now we don't know for sure what happened (the light went into him, and transformed him; the light took away all his goodness leaving only the evil smoke; the light was actually not the goodness in man, but the evil; etc) when he went into the cave, so at the very least, let's say that he had an interaction with the power that was inside the cave. Due to this interaction, MiB/Smokey now retains some of/all of this power.

-Fast forward a few hundred, or thousand years (which ever you prefer).

-Smokey, being evil, decided to kill the crap out of the survivors of Oceanic 815 one day, comes across Locke out and about in the jungle and attacks him. Locke apparently isn't scared of it, and Smokey knows that something is going on with him, and scans him (presumably), and knows that Locke can see that he [MiB] has the light in him, so he retreats to devise his plan.

-Then he figures out how he can get the satisfaction of killing Jacob himself, but still not break the rule of not being able to hurt his brother. He "just knows" that the only person that can kill Jacob is the person that will most likely take his place (cantidate).

-So at another point in S1, Smokey tries to drag Locke down into the ground so he can kill him and take his form and get close enough to the Others to be trusted and taken to Jacob so he can kill him. This unfortunately does not work because Jack and Kate have the dynamite and throw a little monkey wrench into the plan.

-So he bides his time until he can either kill Locke, or just get access to his dead body. And lo and Behold, the island begins to travel through time, which in effect allows Smokey to take the form of Locke because at some point in the future, he is dead (this in effect removes the paradoxes surrounding the compass[es] and the chicken/egg problem with Locke telling himself he has to die).

-So he takes Locke's form, then tells himself (via Richard) that he needs to die in order to bring all of the remaining cantidates back to the island so he can make sure they are dead as well (because they are still "able" to take Jacob's place as long as they are alive).

I'm pretty sure this covers what could be considered a loophole. I'm most deffinitely open to anyone who wants to trash the idea, tweak it, point out any flaws. I had so many things running through my head as I was writing this, I'm sure I left out one or two bits of evidence.

OMG, that is sooo stupid. What the hell is wrong with you?? Kidding kidding kidding.

Actually, I think that is pretty right on for the most part. I think if you just edit the "who killed Jacob part" (Ben not Locke) and it will be pretty tight.

I'm willing to kind of accept that because he was at the source, accessing ut, he could see it.

Hmmm, okay, yeah, that does make sense, but maybe someone finds it accidentally?? I see what you're saying though.

OMG, that is sooo stupid. What the hell is wrong with you?? Kidding kidding kidding.

But that is kind of up in the air because Ben stabbed him, but Locke kicked him in the fire. 6 to 1, half dozen to another you know?? I'm not even sure what I believe there.

to counteract my first thought of its invisible to everyone but the protector... i guess the donkey wheels attached to it so someone other than a protector must have found it.... so carry on.... im disputing myself

Yeah I maintain that the Donkey wheel was set up in the light because MiB willed it so strongly to happen. I have this theory posted elsewhere, and it is pretty hole ridden, but it makes sense with the Donkey Wheel Contraption set up.
