- Throwing "Brother" into the light (?created? or ?unleashed?) the Smoke Monster.
* (When MIB is on the beach with Jacob saying he wants to kill him and also when he "just wants to go home", that's not even "Brother" at that point.  It's Smokey impersonating "Brother" and using his line about wanting to "go home" as a ruse to play on Jacob's sympathy.  Smokey doesn't have a "home" to go to, it just wants to be unleashed on the world.

It's only my opinion, of course, but I see Smokey a little bit differently.  I don't think it impersonates people.  I think when it assumes their physical form it also takes on their feelings, experiences and personality as if they were its own to begin with.  We see that it expresses the same feelings and frustrations as Brother.  Later it takes on Locke's feelings (Don't tell me what I can't do!) and experiences (it remembers Locke's death at the hands of Ben.)  Smokey is a sponge with no mind of its own.  It just soaks up and retains whatever it can get from the dead bodies (and living people) it is exposed to.  Or to put it another way, Smokey is a recorder.  It records every memory of the people it encounters, and when a dead body becomes available it plays back the recording of that individual's soul.  Locke was very fond of Claire and maybe that's why Claire is safe with Smokey.

I say there werr way to many questions un answered. Still don't understand .....
what the light was really about
What does the light do?
How did the light turn him into the MIB?
Who was the lady who raised them? What made her special?
When did the rules get put in place?
Why did Jacob start bringing people to the island?
No idea how a wheel next to water and a light gets people of the island.

*The light is the source of all life...and death and rebirth
*Apparently it is the spark that let's life exist, which is one thing science has not figured out yet.
*Everyone has a piece of this light in them.  If you get greedy with it, it consumes/destroys you and too much greed can destroy it also, both on the island and everywhere.
*'Mother' was just a woman who crashed on the island and became the protector, just one in a line.
*The rules have been in place 'ab aeterno', from the beginning of time.
*Jacob started bringing people to the island because he never wanted to be the protector and was searching for a suitable replacement.

*Uh,.....no idea how the wheel works either...or who eventually built it.  While we're at it, how was Jacob able to come and go seemingly at will?  This episode, to me, was a first.  It was filled with answers, yet I didn't like it at all!  Very cheesy!

Yes, Jacob never wanted the job and was tricked into taken it by his "Mother" who said Thank You to her killer. It seems as if no one wants to do this and just needs to find a sucker to take the role. The bet between Jacob and MiB is, Jacob wants to prove a sucker is born every minute. lol

Sort of reminds you of the whole situation with the Swan Station, doesn't it?

- People were being brought to the Island before Jacob was born.
* (Was that "Mother" bringing them, or the Island itself?  Was she searching for her own replacement -- why, if she had eternal life?)
She like jacob and even Richard were t live forever unless someone killed them with the sword without them speaking the loophole, she said thank you as it was now over- life.

She told MiB "Thank You" before she died, maybe she has been doing it for a long time and wanted it to end. Shewill now live in peace blissfull ignorance in the Alt timeline?

It seems to me that MIB doesn't have a name at all.  And also that MIB was apparently telling the truth when he said Jacob took his body and trapped him on the island.  And that his mom was crazy.  I'm not sure if her intentions were ultimately good or bad, but I'd call my mom crazy if she killed my birth mom, killed my "people," and tried to kill me.  Although, looking back on it, she probably just wanted to knock him out and bury the "well."  Now I have to wonder how she accomplished such a feat.  And we now know what MIB means when he says he wants to go home and understand his motivation behind it.  And I think it's clear why MIB seems to be indestructible and why Jacob could be killed.  And apparently "ghosts" have appeared on the island for a long time.

This statement is incorrect.  We know that Jacob's brother wanted off the island because of the revelation that he had come from across the sea, somewhere he always wanted to go even before his mother lied and said there was nothing else.

Exit Jacob's brother stage right and enter Smokey, who uses the body that was given to it during his release.  Jacob's brother and the smoke monster are NOT, repeat NOT one and the same.

Everything that MIB has said to our losties is nothing but a lie to meet his own ends.  Those ends were revealed last week in the form of destroying everyone on the island, NOT to leave the island.  It uses that as a ruse to garner apathy and trust in it's favor.

I think this was the biggest reveal in this episode.  Jacob's brother's body was laid to rest with his "mother's".  Smokey never was a person, smokey never had a crazy mother, smokey does not want to leave the island.

Or how Atlas tries to trick Heracles into holding the world up (because that job totally sucks). But int he end Heracles tricks Atlas right back and he's stuck holding the world again.

ooooooo just realized another smaller less significant answer.  I think it was season 3 that Locke said something to the effect of "I looked into the heart of this island and what I saw was beautiful."  Locke found the cave of light!

This is very good, SOL.  It fits with all we know so far, I think.

I thought that was why she said "Thank you" also.  It reminded me of the scene with the ancient knight at the end of "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" -- the knight had been guarding the Cup of Christ for sooooo long and he was sooooo tired and he just wanted to be relieved of duty.  Same deal with Mom.

it may be " I looked into the eye of the island and it was beautiful."

So what was the deal with all the "pictures" Smokey takes when it is looking at people?  Did they ever really answer this or did we just assume It was trying to find a suitable body/life to take over?

Yeah, the pregnant women mystery is something I think MUST be answered.  It was pretty much a huge deal up until at least the 5th season.  I don't think they've even shown a hint at why it happens.  The best theory seems to be Jughead somehow caused it, but that still doesn't make sense to me.
