Miles can see how people died, Hurley can talk to them after they're dead, and Desmond is the "constant" (time-travelling experiences, immune to electromagnetism - whatever). Walt has a special power as well,

They wanted to kill off Jack in the Pilot episode, because it would have come out of left field. I think they will kill him off in the finale and blow all of our minds away. Richard will then take his new place as Jacob. Who knows how to do Jacobs job better?

This would crack me up for days and days. Not because I don't like Jack, but because it's sort of an inside joke with me and my friends and coworkers that if they say they missed last night's episode of LOST, I just blurt out that Jack died to see the reaction on their face. Now I HAVE to say it, because if he does die, and I don't say anything, everyone will know that Jack actualluy died. Oh, what a wicked web we weave, when first we yadda schmiggildy flop.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

...Juliet gets revealed as Jack's ex-wife in the sideways (so the producers can leave the show with a nice send-off to try and get people to watch V)

HEY!! I watch V, what's wrong with V?? LOL. I mean it's got Inara (from Firefly) as the head baddie, and the first few episodes had Wash (also Firefly Alum). The next thing you're going to say is that you don't like Castle.

I would say that Jack will inherit the "Jacob" role.  If only because it would make sense to the storyline of the show of Jack and Locke always being at odds with each other.

Desmond seems more like a Richard Alpert or a matthew abbadon, just getting people where they need to BE!

Desmond is the one but he is not the candidate I still say it will be Hurley. Desmond is on another plane of time and dimennion. he sees things we don't even understand. his job is o get everyone together in Sideways and for some unknown reason and my theory is that he will bring MIB and Jacob together, they have to merge somehow.  Desmond is above even them

I don't think it's gonna be Desmond. For the fact that he falls into that trio of people (Miles, Hurley, Desmond) who have special powers.  Miles can see how people died, Hurley can talk to them after they're dead, and Desmond is the "constant" (time-travelling experiences, immune to electromagnetism - whatever). Walt has a special power as well, so maybe that's an opening to see his return before the show's over.  IMO, the purpose of these characters has always been to help further the plot along, by bridging the gap between the normal reality in the flashbacks and such, and the supernatural stuff that the writers need us to know about. After all those secrets are explained, one-by-one, I think that the usefullness of the characters expires.

So, I see that trio (Miles-Desmond-Hurley) dying, Jack becomes the new Jacob, Locke stays as the new MIB, Kate and Sawyer become Adam and Eve in the cave, Juliet gets revealed as Jack's ex-wife in the sideways (so the producers can leave the show with a nice send-off to try and get people to watch V) and Ben and Richard do a "redemption" sacrifice play somehow in the finale to help Jack gain control of the island. If anyone gets off the island, maybe it's Claire, so she can finally be with Aaron again.

I must say that I like most of this.  To me, it seems that they're heading for Adam and Eve to be Bernard and Rose, but that has always bothered me since they claim this answer will prove they always knew where the show was going from Day One but we don't even meet Bernard until the Tailies show up.  Sawyer and Kate would at least be more central -- but I don't see them ending up together when they've now made Juliet the love of Sawyer's life -- he can't end up with two different women in two timelines [although THAT would be awesome!]

Desmond is certainly acting like Jacob in X, I heartily agree; but in on the Island, it's Jack who is the main nemesis of MIB, not Desmond.  Plus, they can't start the series out by being this duality of Jack and Locke and then end it any other way than Jack and UnLocke at this point.  Hollywood wouldn't allow such a left turn ending like that.  They've forced our emotional investment into the characters in a certain hierarchy (with Jack at the top), so i has it ultimately be about him.

Yeah I really think Jack is going to be the new Jacob. As for Adam and Eve, I really think it is going to be MiB and his real mother. Just have a feeling that story is going to be told this coming week, and Jacob will put his Mother and his misguided brother who killed his Mother there. It just has the air of a poetic ending that the Smoke Monster is using MiB's body (Jacob's Brother) to torment Jacob throughout their struggle. Of course as usual I could be completely wrong about this, as I usually am.

You mean trying to kill Locke with a car?
Like Juliet's ex, Locke's mother, Michael, Shannon's father, Claire's mother and Locke himself?
I agree.

This idea is complete lunacy. Now trying to resolve your "siding with pure evil-ness" with trying to project all that evil on to others. There is a term for that. It's called WRONG. If MiB soaked a box of puppies and babies with lighter fluid and set it aflame you would probably pose the theory the babies and puppies were evil. Your theories are unravelling and it is quite pitiful to see you still cling to them.

... but as much as you think they are pushing Jack down our throats as the new Jacob, I think they are kind of doing that with Desmond by giving him these "big Jacob" moments.

See, that's kinda why I was leery of the whole "Jacob is good / MIB is evil" thing -- because it just felt like it was being pushed down our throats and I thought surely the writers would have more imagination than that and they'd want to have some big "WOW" twist in there or something.  But it is certainly seeming like what they were shoving is what it is.  So, based on that, I'm thinking maybe Jack will be THE ONE and Des is just the catalyst or something.  Des will be the thing that MIB is not expecting to have to deal with -- he will be "the twist" maybe, because he will surprise MIB by turning the tables somehow once MIB thinks he has gotten all the Candidates accounted for.

Exactly, I've been thinking that Jack is the replacement, but what Jacob has been waiting for all these years is for someone to take care of MIB once and for all (he probably can't kill MIB himself, either).  I think Desmond will be the one, with his electromagnetic tolerance, to kill MIB by sinking the island.  Jack's reign as the new island protector will be a short one because after all, when the island is done with you...........
But they will live on in the ATL, even those that died on the island before, which will be Jacob's final justification and the nail in the coffin of all the 'MIB is misunderstood' theorists!
