Maybe Widmore told him to go with Sayid?

Then Widmore should have sent Dez out into the jungle by himself lol. He wasted some valuable manpower having Desmond escorted out there if all he really wanted was for Dez to go with Sayid.

Good point!

Wait, I know!   It's like the Wallace Shawn scene in The Princess Bride.  "But I'm not stupid!  I know that you know that I know that!  So naturally you would expect me to do this!  But I know that you expect me to expect you to expect that, so I'm going to do THIS!  Tah-dah!"   *thunk*

Truly, a dizzying intellect.  LOL.

I don't think Widmore even knows what he just did to Desmond (sent him to the X timeline).  But Desmond had his consciousness sent between timelines, connected with his Constant, Penny, and even connected himself as Constant to Daniel X.

I think now he'll have knowledge of both timelines that he can relay to either one.  My question still is which one is the "Happy Ending" and, like with The Incident, which action will actually bring about the result that you want.  I think the X timeline can work out as the ultimate happy ending now because Desmond can bring his knowledge of who they were and what they did in the original timeline so that everyone can reconnect with who they're "supposed to" end up with.
