Sawyer's Age Discrepancy

All along Sawyer was EIGHT years old when his Dad killed his Mom and then himself (almost every Lost website agrees with this).  In this episode he tells Miles he was NINE when it happened.   So what gives???

YA.......your right, he's been left handed during the whole series and when Jacob handed him the pen at his parents funeral he was writting the famous "SAWYER" letter with his right hand! Another little discrepancy.
But we love the show anyway......right?
