So, is the island Pandora's box? Fake Locke/Smokey/MIB evil that is being withheld from the world by Jacob (or the candidate).

Precisely!  And for longtimers to this forum, this analogy is particularly humorous.  Pandora (or Pandy as some of us affectionately called her) was the original mod for the forum.

But, there already is evil in the world. What more could unleashing MIB on the world at large do?

Maybe unleashing MIB would cause the end of the world

Exactly. Pandora's box, he would carry all of the evil in the world in his smoke form. Could a conventional army stop the smoke monster? I highly doubt it.

just received a tweet from Damon:

Quote
I dreamt that I was a Na'vi wandering the midwest. An angry man shouted, "You're not on Pandora anymore -- You're in Kansas!" MEANING?!?

I'm not American so this could mean something else to ... but i'm starting to think that your theory might be right !

Na'vi and Pandora refer to Avatar but I am not sure of the connection to Lost. Probably are some though.....

More than a good time in 3D, honestly it was one of the most incredible movie related experiences I have ever had.  A definite must see.
