Visions of Walt & the Paranormal
Walt was abducted by THE OTHERS during the finale of the first season of LOST. However, in the second season, Walt appears twice as some sort of vision. Walt first appears to Shannon during the night. He is dripping wet, and when he speaks, the words come out as gibberish. However, if you reverse the audio, you can hear that Walt is saying something along the lines of "[Don't] push the button, the button is bad". Walt later appears to Sayid and Shannon, again appearing wet and speaking backwards. This time he warns, "They're coming, and they're close". Shannon goes after Walt, and is shot to death by Ana-Lucia (a passenger from the tail section group), who was running through the jungle frantically having heard the whispers after Cindy (another tailee) had disappeared.
When Michael is taken captive by THE OTHERS and allowed to see Walt, there is mention of a "room" that Walt apparently spent some time in. The fake Henry Gale, apparent leader of the Others, also says they got a lot of "use" out of Walt. For whatever reason, the Others decide to release Michael and Walt, and send them off on a boat at the end of season 2.
In season 2, we also continue to see other paranormal visions that can't be explained.
In "What Kate Did", Kate sees a vision of the same black horse she once knew on the island. She can even touch it before it runs off.
In "The 23rd Psalm", tail section survivor Eko encounters the Monster again, and sees visions from his earlier life reflected in the black cloud.
In "Dave", Hurley sees a bald man named Dave, who he had once been told was a hallucination while hospitalized in Santa Rosa Mental Health Institute.
These, the visions of Walt, and the vivid, prophetic dreams that many of the characters are having are not fully explained by the end of this season, but continue the mystery of the story.
