Since Jugdish is on a well-deserved Spring Break, I had the pleasure to pore over the voting and comments about "Whatever Happened, Happened" and "Dead is Dead." Lost Season Five episodes 11 and 12 were quite well received by our voters. The first installment of these two episodes revolving around Ben Linus received an 8.05 while the second got a very high 9.28. I am in complete agreement with such high ratings. From Kate's compassion, to Richard and the Others' dealings with Ben and Charles, to Locke and Smokey confronting Ben the story seems to be building to a huge climactic point. ESB got the comments going with praise for "Whatever Happened": "I loved how we saw Kate's growth and why Kate came to the Island." Many posters agreed with this. Ladybug absolutely "loved that Kate re-visited Cassidy. They finally talked!" Jugdish said, "Where Aaron is makes sense and is logical. I also liked that it was a human response with a real emotional reason. Kate is finally doing the right thing for someone else." Geronimo Jackson was "glad that Claire's visit to Kate not to bring Aaron back to the island from previous season came full circle to have Kate return Aaron to his Grandma."

"Namaste", the ninth episode of LOST's Season 5, followed the well regarded "LaFleur" and a week long hiatus. Although the episode started off with ratings shakier than Lawnmower Man's touchdown of 316 onto Craphole International, viewers gave the last segments of the episode strong scores. "This Place is Death" turned in a 9.0 average rating amongst SWLS viewers, making it the top rated show of the season thus far. The episode received nine perfect 10 ratings, along with seven ratings of 8 and 9 each. The lowest score given was a 7, and there was only one of those. The last serving of LOST featured the season premiere of Smokey, to fans' delight. And he did not disappoint! A restless Cerberus dragged a doomed Frenchman to an ancient temple, and there the poor man's arm lost it's body. The temple reveal was another long awaited bone-toss to faithful viewers. We also got confirmation that Mrs. Hawking is Dan's mom, and that Dan visits Charlotte on the island in the past. It was an episode that actually confirmed and answered more questions than it raised. The Little Prince confirmed hiatus-long speculation that Jin is still alive, and also introduced us for the first time to Danielle's crew in a 1988 time warp. Ever since last week when a time traveling Daniel Faraday told in-the-past Desmond to go find his mom, many have been speculating that his mother was the infamous Ms. Hawking. After all, they both share a love for chalkboards and math, so why not make the connection. Well, tonight we got some fairly solid proof that our suspicions were correct.

If you watched the repeat of 5x02 tonight, at the end when Ms. Hawking is shown, the popup message at the bottom of the screen identifies her as Eloise Hawking. This is the first time we've been given her first name.

Segment ratings are up for 5x01, "Because You Left" and 5x02, "The Lie". I must admit, I didn't have high hopes for "Something Nice Back Home". First of all, it was a Jack-centric episode, which are hit or miss (usually miss for me). Secondly, it was following a fairly action and mythology packed episode, "The Shape of Things to Come". A recurring pattern in LOST is that these intense episodes are often followed by slower character-driven episodes - which I do think are important to balance out the series, but they usually are not my favorite episodes. Let's examine how SWLS users scored the segments of "Something Nice Back Home". Details after the jump.

The return of LOST last week was long anticipated, and met with high expectations. Looking at segment ratings, it appears that "The Shape of Things to Come" delivered for SWLS members. The first segment rating was up there with "The Economist" and "The Constant" - the highest rated opening segments of the season. Things took a nose dive for segment two, though not too far. You have to assume that Ben's desert scene wasn't to blame for that, but more likely the mini-cliffhanger of Claire having possibly been Arzt'd. Ratings steadily improved with each segment from there on, ending with a perfect rating for the final segment (only the second time this season to happen). Season 4 part 2, started off with a bang, both literally and figuratively. 4x09 "The Shape Of Things To Come" got the viewers right back into the action, gave us some answers and many more questions. Lost came out of the gates with both guns blasting and a freiight train named Smokie. The SWLS users really liked this episode. An 8.4 overall rating shows a strong positive reaction to this episode. 84% of the voters gave it an 8 or higher. A user did give it a 1, but did not post a reason for that low score. Otherwise it was 6 or higher. SWLS members are very hard graders and compare Lost against it self not other shows. Many have stated that they are holding onto a 10 for the best episode ever. So an 8.4 average is a strong rating.

Segment Ratings for Ji Yeon indicate it was fairly well received by SWLS users. Although some fans seem to be growing weary of flash-back / flash-forward / island-time tricks, and they did pull off a good one here, fans seem to have enjoyed the episode more and more as it continued. Ji Yeon started off with a pretty low segment rating compared to other episode starts, but quickly went up and continued to generally rise throughout the showing. Ineed, it looks to be the episode that has covered the most range in the charts thus far, starting fairly low in segment one, but then jumping to an all time high rating for fifth segments. This was the segment in which we saw Michael unveiled. So even though it was expected, it appears this revealing was welcomed by SWLS users. Sledgeweb's Lost Stuff users who participated in the Segment Ratings this week in the Live Group Watch showed their overwhelming dislike of "The Other Woman," giving it the lowest overall segment ratings of any episode this season. Members have also given "The Other Woman" an overall averages rating of 6.82%. This shows a sharp decline from last week's overall average of 8.61, and falls even below "Eggtown's" low 7.06. "The Constant" was a big hit with SWLS members participating in the Live Group Watch Segment Ratings. The segment ratings for Desmond's time travel episode set a new bar, surpassing all other episodes in segment ratings this season. SWLS members also gave "The Constant" an overall average rating of 8.61 (compared to Eggtown's 7.06, and even surpassing Confirmed Dead's 8.45). Last week, we got the Kate-centric "Eggtown"; the fourth episode in the fourth season of LOST. The segment ratings were the lowest yet, as were the overall episode ratings for "Eggtown". This was also the first episode to not have at least two consecutive higher rated segments. Instead, we see a yo-yo effect, with the ratings going up and down with each passing segment. Once again, the cliffhanger segment was the highest rated, but compared to the previous two episodes, the segment ratings for "Eggtown" are pretty rough. Last week's Sayid-centric episode, "The Economist" had quite a few nice twists and turns. The opening scene on the golf course, the Hurley-as-bait move and Elsa's romance scam switcheroo were all classic Lost to me.  By that I mean I practically jumped out of my seat from the unexpectedness of those scenes. All in all I thought it was great, with one minor exception. I could personally have done without some of the flash-forwards. I mean, I got it; they needed to show the time Sayid and Elsa were spending together and how there were feelings developing, or at least the appearance of them. I will admit that until he pulled the trigger I believed Sayid had fallen in love and would be unable to kill her. I was glad I was wrong. No, my main objection was all the kissing scenes. It was bringing back bad flashbacks of the Shannon relationship. Every time they started smooching I would begin yelling to my TV, "Get on with it! We have questions that need answering!"

I personally gave this episode a 9. I don't know if it's because I view every episode through rose-colored glasses, I just enjoy every new little bit of Lost that I can get even if I don't like (mushy) parts of it. Almost 80% of the users who voted in our poll gave this episode an 8 or above.  However, in our new Segment Episode Ratings it was evident that members of SWLS found the middle part of the episode less than stellar. As for the rest of the country, Lost placed 4th overall in the weeks Nielsen Ratings. On the one hand, that was better than it's season average, which is 9th. On the other hand, while I can understand that no show can compete with the juggernaut of the two American Idol shows, to come in just after The Moment of Truth? That hurts.

According to SWLS Group Watch viewers, "The Economist" was a slightly weaker episode than last week's "Confirmed Dead". The new segment rating tool, which you can use to rate segments during live airings of LOST (located in the Group Watch section), gives an impression on which segments of an episode fans generally like the most. Episode 4x03 started off with strong ratings as we watched Sayid blast away his opponent on the golf course. From there, things went considerably down hill.
