part 1.jpg

I figured that if Lost was going to take a break, so would I. Now Lost is back and so is the poll review. "There's No Place Like Home, Part 1" received strong reviews earning an 8.38 rating. I was surprised that this episode earned such a high mark since it did not have very much action and was more of a set up for the two hour finale. The SWLS users gave it strong marks with only one low score and 53.2% scoring it a 9 or 10. Even PointPlace gave it an extremely rare 10! Surprised by PointPlace's generosity, some members are demanding he provide a urine sample. Since most agreed with him, he was spared "the cup", for now.

I must admit, I didn't have high hopes for "Something Nice Back Home". First of all, it was a Jack-centric episode, which are hit or miss (usually miss for me). Secondly, it was following a fairly action and mythology packed episode, "The Shape of Things to Come". A recurring pattern in LOST is that these intense episodes are often followed by slower character-driven episodes - which I do think are important to balance out the series, but they usually are not my favorite episodes. Let's examine how SWLS users scored the segments of "Something Nice Back Home". Details after the jump.

This week we received a more laid back episode of Lost compared to last week's thrill a minute "The Shape of Things to Come". "Something Nice Back Home" gave us a more personal look at the lives of the Losties and started to set up the season finale. We learned that Jack and Kate did finally end up together. It does not appear that the happiness lasts very long. Kate and Jack episodes usually bring the most varied reactions. This episode was no difference. It was rated from scores of 1 to 10, with 69% giving a rating of 7 or higher with an average of 7.1. Overall it earned a positive rating but SWLS users saw the episode in very different light. We will discuss both positive and negative reactions plus give my review of the episode.

Jate.jpgFor anyone who is not familiar with the word "Jate" it stands for the relationship between Jack and Kate. A "Jater" is a reference to someone who feels Jack and Kate should be together. A "Skater" would be a fan of the Sawyer/Kate relationship. I am neither a Skater nor a Jater, just for the record. I don't even find the triangle itself to be an interesting storyline. But since "Jate" appears so prominently in "Something Nice Back Home," I gave it some more thought. I have come to the conclusion that Jack and Kate should not be together. At all.

4x10_fridgeArt.jpgHere are some requested screen shots from users that so far haven't mandated an independent investigation - but let us know if you see something interesting. Could the dog in Aaron's artwork be Vincent? See the pictures after the jump, and let us know what you think in the comments.

4x10_jackTats.jpg Every time Jack removes clothing, debates begin about his tats. I don't remember seeing the one on his back before, and the one on his inner arm above the "stars" tat doesn't look familiar, but perhaps I've just missed these before. It wouldn't be at of character for Jack to get some fresh tats after returning from the island. What exactly is that on his back though? A "K" and a "8"? K8 = Kate? With some kind of Decepticon symbol. Take a close look and let us know what you think in the comments. View a larger image after the jump.

4x10_newspaper.jpgJack's picks up this paper near the beginning of episode 4x10, "Something Nice Back Home". The paper announces the Yankees sweep of the Boston Red Sox, which places this flash forward at the end of August, 2007 (see comments below). The article is written by Gregg Bilson... this seems to be a fake article, and Gregg Bilson is the founder of Independent Studio Services, a company that produces props for the film and television industry - so perhaps a reference to that Gregg Bilson? Also, of interests, there is an email address in a blank space below the article. It looks like marvin.mancia@studiographics.us ... interesting, when you type in studiographics.us in your browser, you go to the ISS site affiliated with Gregg Bilson. Looks like some inside promotion (Bilson has also appeared as a brand of cigarettes in LOST). I don't see a Marvin Mancia listed on their site, but they do use the name MANCIA in some product samples, viewed here. Larger view after the jump.

4x10_cover.jpg LOST returned after a long break last week, and according to our poll results and segment ratings, it was a hit. The stakes were high for our losties in "The Shape of Things to Come". A mini-cliffhanger teased that Claire may have been killed in the commando's attack on Othersville. We were relieved to see that Claire survived, only to have Alex killed off one segment later. The episode also featured what seems to be a jump in time and location from Ben, as he awoke in the middle of the Sahara desert... in 2005 (a date which he himself needed to verify was correct). Other highlights included the revealing of Ben's secret room within his secret room, that appears to be an ancient cave, where one can apparently summon and control the Smoke Monster! It all ended with an enigmatic show down between Ben and Chuck... what exactly is the deal with their game?

After an action-packed episode last week, tonight we are treated to "Something Nice Back Home", a Jack-centric episode. More on that, after the jump.
