What's Hot: Season 6 Start Date Announced
Whether or not we're ready, Lost is ending: four episodes to go this season and the final seventeen chapters next season. All of the players are in place. Mainland life has been soundly rejected and life on the island is all that matters.
Part of the cover-up story involving the crash of Oceanic Flight 815 involves the Oceanic 6 being helped ashore by some fishermen on a small remote island in the Pacific. To help convince the public, a fake photo of that "rescue" has been staged and presented at a press conference. Get a better view of the photo by clicking the Continue Reading link below.
Someone is going to a lot of trouble to keep the truth about Oceanic Airlines under wraps. Obviously, Widmore has something to gain by keeping his staged wreck a secret, but why are all the Losties participating in a cover up? In "There's No Place Like Home, Part 1", the Oceanic 6 attend a joint press conference with Oceanic representatives where a cover up story explains that the survivors washed up on a remote island. Here are some maps showing the cover-up locales. Bigger pics after the jump.
Although we've known for some time (Season 3) that the rest of the world believes that Oceanic Flight 815 was found at the bottom of the ocean, with bodies intact, it wasn't until "Confirmed Dead" that we actually got to see for ourselves the discovery of the 815 wreckage. But, we know the real Flight 815 wreckage is on the island! What's going on here? Cover up?
From "Confirmed Dead", the entire seems to be astounded by the discovery of the wreckage of Oceanic Flight 815 at the bottom of the Sunda Trench. According to reports, all passengers are dead, forever entombed in the remains of the airship at the bottom of the Indian Ocean.
In 4x01 a new mysterious man, claiming to be an Oceanic Attorney came to visit Hurley in the Crazy House. But at the end he demanded to know if "They were still alive." So, who exactly is this enigmatic figure? Does he really work for Oceanic? And who is he inquiring about? The people on the boat, or the survivors of Oceanic Flight 815. Let the theorizing begin!
In LOST 3x16, "One of Us", we see Oceanic Flight 815 break apart and crash on the island. Moments later, at the Flame Station, Mikhail is reviewing several news feeds related to the disappearance of the plane. Ben arrives with Juliet and asks Mikhail to bring up a feed from Richard to prove that Juliet's sister is still alive and well. To prove it is a live feed, a shot of the Miami Journal is displayed with the date of the crash of Flight 815, September 22nd, 2004.
In LOST 3x16, "One of Us", we get a glimpse of how the outside world reacted to the disappearance of Oceanic Flight 815. On the day of the crash, Ben takes Juliet to The Flame station to see live video of her sister and nephew. Prior to that, Mikhail has all the monitors set on various live news feeds covering the missing plane.
In "Flashes Before Your Eyes", Desmond visits a pub to discuss time travel with his physics buddy. Des believes he recognizes the events transpiring around him and can predict the future. Looking up to the TV, he sees a soccer match in play, and predicts how the game will end. On closer look, the ads on the field in the soccer game feature Lost staples: The Hanso Foundation, Oceanic Airlines, Apollo Candy Bards, Buddies Diapers (from Charlie's Commercial), Mr. Cluck's Chicken Shack, and Gannon Car rentals. Also included is a company with KRONOS (time) in the name, and something called EXPOSE.
Another Oceanic plane was spotted in 3x07, a nice little easter egg for Oceanic fans. The ubiquitous airline flashes its tail again.
This image actually highlights several interesting Easter Eggs and/or clues, I think.
1) Kevin surprises Kate with plane tickets to Costa Rica, saying that after 6 months, they can finally take that honeymoon they've been putting off. And the airline that would be taking them? You guessed it.
2) Kevin's last name is Callis, written on his name tag.
3) His police patch says that he is with the Miami Police Department. The connection to Florida is that Sawyer also has several flashbacks relating to Florida, most notably Tallahassee and Tampa (A.K.A., the "Tampa Job"). We have not yet seen direct overlap of these flashbacks.
In "Live Together, Die Alone", we see Desmond at a cafe where he runs into Libby. As they discuss the sailboat race, a decorative plate can be seen on a shelf in the background over Desmond's shoulder. The plate resembles the Oceanic Airlines logo. This is similar to the decorative piece seen on a shelf in the Orientation Film in Gerald DeGroot's office, which also resembles the Oceanic Airlines logo (which turns out to be made of straw). Neither are a perfect match, but may represent an ongoing motiff.
