What's Hot: Season 6 Start Date Announced
The return of LOST last week was long anticipated, and met with high expectations. Looking at segment ratings, it appears that "The Shape of Things to Come" delivered for SWLS members. The first segment rating was up there with "The Economist" and "The Constant" - the highest rated opening segments of the season. Things took a nose dive for segment two, though not too far. You have to assume that Ben's desert scene wasn't to blame for that, but more likely the mini-cliffhanger of Claire having possibly been Arzt'd. Ratings steadily improved with each segment from there on, ending with a perfect rating for the final segment (only the second time this season to happen). Follow the jump to see how this episode compares to others, and give us your thoughts on the ratings.
Season 4 part 2, started off with a bang, both literally and figuratively. 4x09 "The Shape Of Things To Come" got the viewers right back into the action, gave us some answers and many more questions. Lost came out of the gates with both guns blasting and a freiight train named Smokie. The SWLS users really liked this episode. An 8.4 overall rating shows a strong positive reaction to this episode. 84% of the voters gave it an 8 or higher. A user did give it a 1, but did not post a reason for that low score. Otherwise it was 6 or higher. SWLS members are very hard graders and compare Lost against it self not other shows. Many have stated that they are holding onto a 10 for the best episode ever. So an 8.4 average is a strong rating.
In 4x09, we learned Ben has the ability to summon the great Smoke monster from a cave connected to his secret hideout room. As smokey comes rumbling in like a freight train, we see several "flashes" on its "body". I can't discern anything definite in these flashes - unlike those we saw with Eko's encounter. There are also several flashes in the forest during Smokey's attack, but too little detail to be reavealing.
In 4x09, "The Shape of Things to Come", Ben plays a gamble with the life of his "daughter", Alex, and loses. Shocked (that the "rules" have changed), Ben hurries into his secret room, and then opens another secret door revealing some kind of ancient cave complete with hieroglyph like drawings (remember the hatch timer?). Moments later, the Smokey Train arrives to wipe out the bad guys. It looks like Ben has some ability to control smokey, who might be native to the island? We still don't know exactly what smokey is though. WHAT IS SMOKEY!? Follow the link to get a better view.
The interrupted fourth season of LOST continues tonight with a brand new episode, "The Shape of Things to Come". Hopefully the momentum that built up in the first half of the season will carry over to the next batch of fresh episodes. Personally, I've been away from LOST and the site for quite a while due to personal reasons (including negotiating and accepting a new full time job) - so my deepest thanks to the awesome staff who have been posting articles and keeping things in order. We are a bit behind on some things, but hope to have them all online soon. Of course, screenshots will be up tonight and we will continue with the episode segment ratings, so be sure to tune in for that during tonight's episode at 10PM Eastern.
Tonight we get a Sayid / Ben centric episode. We've previously learned that Sayid ends up working for Ben in the "future"... but what exactly are they doing, and who exactly are their targets? Is it Widmore's people? Hopefully we'll find out tonight.
ABC.com has put out a new video podcast for Thursday's episode "The Shape of Things to Come". The podcast takes video questions from viewers and Damon Lindeloff and Carlton Cuse attempt to answer them without giving away any secrets. There is nothing earth shattering in their responses. The only thing spoilerish is that they do give us an idea of which episodes we will be getting some answers. ABC has also started a new on line game titled "Lostscape". After completing the game you can enter into a raffle to win a trip to ComicCon this summer. Lets first take a look at the questions and answer session.
