5x14_wired.jpgWhen Charles Widmore comes to visit a broken down and memory deprived Daniel Faraday, just after the Oceanic wreckage was found, we get a quick glimpse of a magazine on the couch. That magazine is an August 2003 issue of WIRED. The cover says, "The Super Power Issues," as well as "The Impossible Gets Real." There is also a mention of Time Travel on the cover as well.

watercooler.gifWhatever Happened, Happened gave us some interesting scenes, if not a compelling overall episode. Still, we got to see the return of Locke, Ben being sent off to be Otherized, and a couple of great conversations between Hurley and Miles. In this week's Talking LOST, Astro and I discuss the inevitability of stale snacks, free will versus pre-destination, the relationship between Widmore and Eloise, and our future careers as inept vigilante super heroes. Somehow, it all related to last night's LOST (I think). Follow the link to read our conversation.

5x03_widmore_1.jpgIn a lackluster episode for investigations (among other things) quite possible the best scene came at the very end and will undoubtedly have Lost fans speculating all week long. Richard is warned that he should consult Ellie because if Charles finds out he'll be angry. These few words imply so much in so little. First, we know for a fact that Charles and Ellie are both still there at this time. And second, this seems to confirm some kind of relationship between Ellie and Charles. Perhaps they are simply best friends, maybe lovers, or perhaps even brother and sister, but there seems to be a definite connection between the two. Personally, I'm voting for siblings. Follow the jump for the video clip.

5x07_bentham_passport.jpg So, Locke's pseudonym was bestowed upon him by none other than Charles Widmore. Locke is given a new name, and a new passport to trek the globe with. According to the passport, Bentham is a Canadian, born in New York in 1948. Take a look after the jump.

01282009_5x03_Desmond.jpgThis episode title brought about a lot of curiosity. Is "Jughead" a person, place or thing? Is it the character in the Archie comics? Is it a partial shout out to a certain "moderator extraordinaire" that has a thing for feisty, green-eyed brunettes on the run? Well, now we know one thing for certain: Jughead is Da BOMB!! Um, sorry. I'm sorry. That was pretty bad, wasn't it? I... I just couldn't help myself.

4x08_WidmorePapers.jpg According to Tom (who, as it has been long speculated, turns out is gay - not that there's anything wrong with that), Charles Widmore is responsible for the fake Oceanic 815 discovered at the bottom of the Ocean. Of course, we previously heard from Widmore's people that Ben staged the fake plane, and that is one of the many reasons they are interested in him. In that account, Widmore went to great lengths to recover the Black Box, which he wouldn't have done had he put it there. So, who is responsible for the staged plane crash? My bet is on Ben, and that Tom's "story" is just a way to get Michael on board with their plan. What do you think? Let us know in the comments.

4x05_blackRockAuction.jpgIn the fifth episode of the fourth season of ABC's LOST, we see a painting of the Black Rock being auctioned along with a ledger from the ship. According to the auctioneer, the ship was lost at sea. Lost? Not for us, we know that the Black Rock somehow ended up on Fun-Time island. The auction was won, of course, by Charles Widmore. We still don't know how he is tied into the details of the story of LOST, but it was good to see his face again. Will we find out more about the Black Rock in future episodes? What do you think?

3x22: Penny ReturnsIn 3x22, the season finale, "Through the Looking Glass", Penny Widmore returns (she's always good for a season finale). Of course, we saw her in Des's flashbacks, but not in real time. She is somehow making contact with "The Looking Glass", and just happens to be on her webcam when Charlie disables the jamming device. She tells Charlie that she doesn't know anything about Naomi or a boat. Oops.

3x08 08: Thomas' PaintingIn "Flashes Before Your Eyes", Desmond visits Charles Widmore at Widmore Industries in London. In the office hang two paintings. One depicts a polar bear, Buddha, and the word "Namaste". The other painting was seen in the first season of Lost, in episode 1x10, "Raised by Another". In that episode, we meet Claire's boyfriend, Thomas, who she believes to be the father of her child. Thomas is an artist, and we see several of his paintings in Claire's flashbacks. One of the painting in "Raised by Another" is identical to the painting seen hanging in Widmore's office in "Flashes Before Your Eyes". The strange thing? "Flashes Before Your Eyes" takes place BEFORE "Raised by Another". Is this merely a prop error, or is something else in play?

3x08 07: Painting in Des's PlaceThis egg is being posted due to several reader requests. Several SWLS users have noted a slight similarity between the "mountain" shapes in the painting that hangs in Desmond's flat, and the painting in Charles Widmore's office. The similarity is not strong enough to make any solid conclusions. Others believe the paintings bear resemblance to the hatch painting, and the paintings by Claire's boyfriend, Thomas. Currently, these connections seem speculative at best.

3x07: Widmore Strikes AgainIn "Not in Portland", Juliet's sister's pregnancy test is, of course, a Widmore Labs brand pregnancy test kit! This is the third Widmore pregnancy test we've seen on Lost to date. The first one was left over from the wreckage of Flight 815 and hoarded by Sawyer. Sun uses it on the island to confirm that she is pregnant. The second Widmore tester is used by Kate in one of her flashbacks. And now it pops up again, with Juliet's sister using it to confirm her own pregnancy.

Infertility is definitely coming into play on Lost, and one has to wonder if the ubiquity of Widmore Labs pregnancy test kits are coincidence or not.

3x06: Kate's Widmore Pregnancy KitIn 3x6, Kate uses a home pregnancy kit and discovers she is not pregnant. You may recall, Sun used a pregnancy kit in Season 2, and found out she was pregnant. The kit was obtained from Sawyer, and Kate somewhat conspicuously commented "Who carries a pregnancy kit on a plane?" Does the kit Sun used belong to Kate? Well, although the packaging is different, and the text is not legible, clearly size and position of the text matches the Widmore kit that Sun used in Season 2. It appears that Kate's kit has text laid out the same way which reads "WIDMORE LABS - HOME PREGNANCY TEST". In addition, the picture of the tester in both packages is the same. However, it was quite some time between leaving Kevin and going to Australia, so if the kit did belong Kate, it would have to be related to a different relationship. Even if the kit doesn't belong to Kate, it is interesting to note nonetheless. The actual tester itself is a different model from the one Sun uses. Of course, Widmore is the company run by Penny Widmore's father - so we can expect to see Widmore come into play more and more as we discover what Penny is up to after having detected the magnetic anomaly at the end of season 2.

2x23: Monitoring Station - Electromagnetic Anomaly DetectedIn the final moments of "Live Together, Die Alone", we learn there are a couple of guys in some sort of monitoring station in very cold environment. A blinking light on a computer interrupts their chess game. The screen indicates that an electromagnetic anomaly has been detected. They immediately look up the reference code, and call Penny Widmore. They tell her that they've found it. It appears that Penny is perhaps looking for Desmond and the island. Though, we have to wait until next season to find out what exactly is going on.

monitor, the number is 7418880 (which is the product of 4*8*15*16*23*42).

2x23: Charles Widmore & BrochureIn "Live Together, Die Alone", Desmond is approached by Charles Widmore after being released from prison. Charles shows Desmond the letters that he had been sending to Penny Widmore from prison, letters which Charles intercepted and kept from Penny. He also gives Desmond a box full of cash, and tells him to stay away from his daughter. Later, we find out that Desmond is planning on competing against Charles in a solo race around the world. He shows Libby a brochure for the race, which has Charles Widmore's name and info on the back. The brochure indicates that Charles in an Industrialist and Philanthropist. There is also a short paragraph on the brochure which reads:

[quote]There was a mass of spectator craft out in the Solent - that came [as a] surprise. We were not expecting so many people, and it made it difficult to steer, especially since there was no marshaling to speak of. We almost ran down a rubber dinghy, but managed somehow to avoid it at the last.

It should be noted, we have seen several Widmore references in LOST. First, there was in the WIDMORE CONSTRUCTION banner in the London skyline in Charlie's flashback "Fire + Water". Then, there was the WIDMORE LABS logo on the pregnancy kit Sun uses. And, finally, Henry Gale's balloon had a WIDMORE LABS logo printed on the side
