What's Hot: Season 6 Start Date Announced
I'm back!! After a very busy time and a fantastic vacation it is time to get back to my episode rating reviews. I want to thank Laklost for filling in for me last week and doing two episode reviews. It was fantastic and a hard act to follow. Thank you Laklost, you are the best!!
I was stunned after watching "Some Like it Hoth". Not stunned because it was such a great episode, but stunned that our users liked it so much. They gave it a 8.52 average, which was dragged down some by a two and my 6. I am usually not that far off in opinion from our users. 76% gave this episode a 9 or 10 rating! It's time for some spring cleaning. I have all this information, all this conjecturing and theorizing about Lost crammed into my head. I have a serious need to open the door, let the dust mites go scattering, and lay all this stuff out on the floor and organize it!
There are several huge questions that for the narrative have to be addressed in order for the story to resolve. Who are the powers vying for the island? How will the island relate to the struggle? What will the struggle mean for our protagonists? We'll call these three questions our three cleaning boxes. I've heard it said that the best way to sort clutter is to have three boxes marked Throw, Move, Give. It must be very smart to use that system - I wouldn't know! But I can mark our Lost spring cleaning boxes Power, Island and Protagonists. Knowing how us Lost-phytes love to parce words I better clear up what I mean by each of these.
Okay, so we hate to make it seem like anytime there's a small amount of smoke in an episode of Lost that it means that Smokey was there, but rewatching the scene where Christian opens the door in Othersville, there is obviously quite a bit of what looks like smoke behind him. Then, as they enter the house, the door opens to a strange squeaking sound and the smoke swirls through the rooom. So is this Smokey, and proof that somehow Smokey is involved in the Christian sightings? Or is this mearly a smoky room and the wind is blowing through the door, making it swirl? I, for one, think that its Smokey.

Sun receives a package at the hotel in 5x04, "The Little Prince". Inside the package is a gun hidden in chocolates, some photos of Jack and Ben at the funeral home, and several pages of Surveillance files. A close look at the files reveal they aren't related to anything on LOST at all. Or does it? An investigation into the text on the files has revealed that the source of the text originates from here. A very strange game site where users try to solve crimes set in the fictional county of Yaknapatawpha - which is created and used in the writing of William Faulkner. Is this more literary thematic references for us to dig up? Let us know what you think in the comments. Pictures after the jump.
As we watched tonight's episode, perched on the edge of our seats, no doubt, as the freighter blew up before ours and our losties eyes. Many of us couldn't help but share Sun's painful screams as she watched her husband, Jin, perish in the ship's explosion. But a closer look at the scene immediately before the explosion appears to show nobody standing near the back of the boat where Jin was last seen. So I'll ask the question...could he have somehow made it off that boat before it exploded? This is lost, and we never actually saw him die. Let us know what your thoughts are on Jin's fate.
Last week's episode of lost, Ji Yeon, had us following Sun and Jin in an interesting flash-forward/ flash-back combination episode. We watched as Sun, screaming for Jin "Michael Style" had her baby in an obvious flash-forward as Jin ran around the city buying panda bears, breaking his cell phone, and threatening to kill cab stealers. To put it simply, while watching this episode live I was underwhelming with the plot and soap opera-ish style that never really got me excited for the whole hour. However, in hindsight I think that episode wasn't as terrible as I felt it was while watching it. For Ji Yeon, the whole was greater than the sum of its parts.
The creators of LOST tried to pull a fast one on us tonight, in "Ji Yeon", the seventh episode of the fourth season of LOST. In an unprecedented move, we got an episode that split between flash forwards, and flash backs. For those of you still confused about what was going on, all of Jin's flashes were to the past, to the year 2000. The first clue for this was the Dragon the storekeep offers jin, which he hints would be good luck in the current year, the year of the dragon. The last year of the dragon was in 2000. The next is in 2012. A second hint for this was Jin's outdated cellphone. And lastly, Jin's tombstone indicated he died in the plane crash, and never made it off the island (but is he really dead?). Conversely, all of Sun's flashbacks were flash forwards, to sometime in the year 2005 (around August or so). We know this, also because of the tombstone, and because she is delivering the child she conceived on the island with Jin. Were you fooled? What did you think of the trick?
Poor, crazy little Regina was caught reading a book on the freighter just before she jumped overboard covered in chains for a little swim with the fishes. Her book choice? Jules Verne's The Survivior's of the Chancellor. Yet another theme relevant novel for our Losties.
In an interesting twist, we discover during the flash forward that Jin has died. Although the tombstone has the date of 9/22/2004 on it, the ate of the crash, Sun's reaction seems to indicate that he really did die, even if they did lie about how and when. But despite his looming death, we'll still get to see him next week. Maybe I'm the only one who finds that odd. What are your thoughts?
In last week's episode 4x06, The Other Woman, we got to see Ben play his last card in order to get Locke to free him. That card was the fact that Charles Widmore was the man behind the freighter, and hunting for the island. It bought Ben his freedom. We also found out that Juliet was "the other woman" in her relationship with Goodwin, and that creepy and obsessive Ben laid his claim to Juliet and pretty much arranged for Goodwin to be killed. Despite these facts the episode was generally unpopular among fans at SWLS, scoring the lowest segment ratings and the lowest overall ratings for the season thus far. We can only hope that tonight's Sun and Jin focused episode will be a change for the better.

In 3x18, "D.O.C.", Sun is blackmailed by Jin's mother, who says she will shame her husband and her family if she isn't give a large sum of money. When they meet, Jin's mother is holding a newspaper with a picture of Jin and Sun.
Added per user request. Anyone up for translating?
Many themes develop throughout the series that appear as brief Easter Eggs. This is a screen found in the background of Jin & Sun's apartment. When translated, this is poem by a famous Chinese poet named Li Bai, called "Travel in Dreams".
Special thanks to Son_of_Locke of Lost-TV for finding this tidbit.
