5x12_statue_shadow_code.jpgWhen Frank reappeared on the Hydra island Ilana demanded "what lies in the shadow of the statue," an obvious code of somekind that Frank didn't even TRY to guess. I mean, come on, in that situation you at least gotta throw out a guess, like "Twinkies!" So this begs the question, who is Ilana, and who's side is she on? Follow the jump for another look at Ilana's demands.

296px-Anubis_standing.jpgThe screen shot of the statue from tonight's episode along with the ankh necklace that Paul wore in the episode has turned up a strong connection to the Egyptian God Anubis. In fact, SWLS is saying that the four-toed statue IS in fact Anubis. Follow the jump to learn some more about Anubis, see some pics to help solidify that the statue is him, and to let us know what you think.

5x08_statue.jpgAt long last we got a glimpse of what is assumed to be the four-toed statue tonight, but unfortunately we only got to see the back of it, and only for about 3 seconds. The pic is above and although it doesn't give a lot of description, early Egyptian connections scream from this. Especially when you consider other Egyptian items such as the hyroglypics and such. What do you think?? Could the Egyptians have gotten their knowledge from the original inhabitants of the island? Or was the island simply populated with early Egyptians?

3x19: Columns and RuinsIn 3x19, "The Brig", The Others have relocated to an "old" place. It looks like some ancient ruins, complete with one intact doric-esque column. Another column can be seen nearby, and then a lot of large broken stones. This appears to be a little more dated than Dharma's hangouts. Looks like we might be getting back to the four toed statue we saw in Season 2. Were the people who built the statue the same people that built the ruins Cooper is tied to in "The Brig". Seems like a good possibility to me.

2x23: Giant Four-Toe FootIn "Live Together, Die Alone", Sayid borrows Desmond's boat and sails with Jin and Sun to the north side of the island. Along the way, the come across a strange finding. They spot a statue of a giant foot with four toes on the shore. The statue is broken, and all that remains is a foot. The statue is reminiscent of the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world.

The statue also seems familiar to the statue described in this summary of "Headlong Hall" by Thomas Love Peacock:

[Quote]
"The place is quite a wilderness," said Squire Headlong: "for, during the latter part of my father's life, while I was finishing my education, he troubled himself about nothing but the cellar, and suffered everything else to go to rack and ruin. A mere wilderness, as you see, even now in December; but in summer a complete nursery of briers, a forest of thistles, a plantation of nettles, without any livestock but goats, that have eaten up all the bark of the trees. Here you see is the pedestal of a statue, with only half a leg and four toes remaining: there were many here once. When I was a boy, I used to sit every day on the shoulders of Hercules: what became of him I have never been able to ascertain. Neptune has been Iying these seven years in the dust-hole; Atlas had his head knocked off to fit him for propping a shed; and only the day before yesterday we fished Bacchus out of the horse-pond."

Here is an excerpt from the story in which the statue is mentioned, you can read the story here.
