Thumbnail image for 040609laklost.jpgSpring Cleaning continues here at SWLS. We're still trying to pack up our "Protagonists" box. I need a whole box just for Locke. He's always been his own unique man, and he's always been dealing with boxes physical or metaphysical, so I think he'd be happy with his own. The fact of the matter is that no category correctly holds Locke. We talked about seven groups of people in the story of Lost. Locke has never been fully a part of any of them, and it appears that even in death he is an anomaly. I contend that not only does he not fit into any of the groups of people but he actually supersedes them all. He is the New Man, greater than the ones before him.

033009.laklost.jpg It's time for some spring cleaning. I have all this information, all this conjecturing and theorizing about Lost crammed into my head. I have a serious need to open the door, let the dust mites go scattering, and lay all this stuff out on the floor and organize it!

There are several huge questions that for the narrative have to be addressed in order for the story to resolve. Who are the powers vying for the island? How will the island relate to the struggle? What will the struggle mean for our protagonists? We'll call these three questions our three cleaning boxes. I've heard it said that the best way to sort clutter is to have three boxes marked Throw, Move, Give. It must be very smart to use that system - I wouldn't know! But I can mark our Lost spring cleaning boxes Power, Island and Protagonists. Knowing how us Lost-phytes love to parce words I better clear up what I mean by each of these.

032809sayid.jpg"Namaste" and "He's Our You" both delved into the world of the Dharma Initiative circa 1977. We got to see Sawyer, Juliet, Jin, Miles and now Kate, Jack and Hurley become part of the happy island colony. This is what we have been waiting for this entire season. The return to the island and the story of the reunited Losties has been told to us, to very mixed results. The SWLS members rated "Namaste" with a 7.71 rating and a "He's Our You" as a 7.08. These are very low ratings for a Lost episodes. Continue after the break to see what our members had to say about these episodes.

5x10_ben_shot.jpgSo, in a very cliffhanger-ish style, tonight's episode ended with Sayid shooting Young Ben in the chest. The images after the jump show that the bullet wound appears to have penetrated extremely near to his heart. I seriously doubt that a young boy could normally survive a bullet wound of this nature, but something tells me Young Ben will be fine, somehow. Perhaps he is saved, or perhaps Locke wasn't the first person that the island has resurrected. Let us know your thoughts after the jump.

5x10_a_separate_reality.jpgTonight young Ben provided prisoner Sayid with a book titled A Separate Reality - by Carlos Castaneda published in 1971. The book is supposedly a non-fiction story where Castaneda claims he was under the apprenticeship of a self-proclaimed Yaqui Indian Sorcerer, Don Juan Matus. Whether or not the events in the book took place have been a subject of debate since it was published. However, its also interesting that the title of the book is A Separate Reality. Are the writers hinting that the losties are in an alternate reality, something we touched on in this discussion, or is the book nothing more than a red herring?

"The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" showed a some very interesting conversations between Charles Widmore and John Locke. Widmore tells John that "The island needs you John. It has for a long time. John finally asks a key question, "What makes you think that I'm so special?" He gets the very cryptic reply "Because you are". But why is he special. Why is Locke the special chosen leader? What characteristics has John shown during his life to make these powerful people believe he is so special?

Episode 5x06 "316" set a new ratings record with an incredible 9.35 average. SWLS members absolutely loved this episode. 73% of all votes were a perfect 10. 92% of all votes were for scores of 8 or higher. There was a vote one vote each for a rating of 6 or 7. Neither voter posted a reason for those ratings. Viewers want the main characters of Lost to be together and we now have the Oceanic 6 (minus Aaron) back on the island with Sawyer, Jin, Juliet and friends. Watching the Oceanic 6 converge on the same flight with Ben and Frank Lapidus was true television magic. Please go to the next page to see the SWLS users' comments on this outstanding episode.

Thumbnail image for 020109hurley.jpgWe get to take a break from all of the time travel talk with another guest writer, Hurley Rocks Dudes. He explains why exactly Hurley Rocks Dude! Any SWLS user is invited to submit articles to any of the mods. Enjoy!

Hey everybody! I just thought I would share some thoughts with you all and thanks to Jugdish for the opportunity. I thought for a while what I was going to write about, and now I have figured it out. Why not write an article on my favorite character? Obviously that would be Hurley, or Hugo Reyes. Hurley is the most likeable character on LOST for a few reasons. He always provides us with a good laugh, like throwing a hot pocket at Ben, or building a golf course, and even driving the DHARMA van. One of the funniest Hurley moments was when he, Locke, and Ben were visiting Jacob. Hurley and Ben are waiting outside, Hurley opens a candy bar, Ben looks at him, and Hurley thinks for a moment, then tears the candy bar in two, and gives Ben the bigger piece.

Ew.com's insider, Micheal Ausiello, reports that Lost has hired Zuleikha Robinson to fill the role of an important new character. Zuleikha will be playing the role of llana, an Euorpean female who is as dangerous as she is smart. She's alluring and apparently used to getting her own way. Jeff Jensen speculates that llana "sounds exactly like the kind of lethal lady Sayid would fall for. So I'm wondering if the dashing Iraqi is due for a new love interest, yet another lady whose true motivations will be in question."

Zuleikha Robinson has been seen in Fox's short lived show called New Amsterdam. She has also been seen in Rome and the x-files spin off The Lone Gunman.

4x09_ben.jpgThe interrupted fourth season of LOST continues tonight with a brand new episode, "The Shape of Things to Come". Hopefully the momentum that built up in the first half of the season will carry over to the next batch of fresh episodes. Personally, I've been away from LOST and the site for quite a while due to personal reasons (including negotiating and accepting a new full time job) - so my deepest thanks to the awesome staff who have been posting articles and keeping things in order. We are a bit behind on some things, but hope to have them all online soon. Of course, screenshots will be up tonight and we will continue with the episode segment ratings, so be sure to tune in for that during tonight's episode at 10PM Eastern.

Tonight we get a Sayid / Ben centric episode. We've previously learned that Sayid ends up working for Ben in the "future"... but what exactly are they doing, and who exactly are their targets? Is it Widmore's people? Hopefully we'll find out tonight.

4x03_bensBunker.jpg In "The Economist", episode 3 of the fourth season of LOST on ABC, Sayid puts a team together to invade Othersville. While searching Ben's house, Sayid finds a secret passage behind a bookshelf that leads to a hidden bunker. There, we see assorted clothing and luggage that seems to indicate Ben has traveled to and from the island. In a desk, Sayid also finds a bunch of money, and a bunch of passports. What has Ben been up to? Get a closer look on the next page.

Thumbnail image for 4x03 Braclets In Season 4, episode 3 of LOST (The Economist), Sayid takes interest in zombie-Naomi's jewelry. In particular, a bracelet on her wrist, which bears an inscription from "R.G." -- exactly who it's from, we aren't sure. Interestingly, later in the same episode, we discover a similar bracelet on Elsa, the girl Sayid Bond is using to find his next target. Does this mean that Ben and Sayid are working against Michael Abaddon and his team? To protect the 815ers? Click the continue reading link to get a closer look.

Oceanic-Air.com: Sayid's PassportWhen Shannon's seat (8F) was clicked on official ABC site, http://www.oceanic-air.com in 2005 (may no longer work), Sayid's passport is shown. It says he is Iraqi, but the type of passport is actually Iranian, which is likely a prop error.

2x23: Kelvin Inman is Joe InmanIn "Live Together, Die Alone", we finally meet Desmond's hatch-mate, Kelvin. It turns out, Kelvin Inman is the man we previously know as Joe Inman from Sayid's past. Joe Inman was the CIA operative that trained Sayid in torturin in the Gulf War. It turns out, Joe Inman joined the Dharma Initiatve some time after the Gulf War, and was assigned to the Swan Station with someone named Radzinsky. Radzinsky eventually killed himself, leaving Inman alone in the Swan Station until Desmond washed up on the island. Inman was planning on fixing up Desmond's boat and leaving Desmond to push the button by himself, but Desmond found out about his plan. Desmond confronted Inman, accidentally killing him.
