What's Hot: Season 6 Start Date Announced
The Locke we saw tonight was certainly a different John Locke than we're used to seeing. Tonight he was assertive, confident, sure of himself, and most of all, he had a plan and a purpose...oh, and a pig. Locke took Richard and Ben to go find himself at the beechcraft, give himself the compass, and give himself the instructions that he knew he'd need in order to fulfill the remainder of his destiny. Kinda weird, huh? I know many of you are screaming paradox, but I hate that word, so I'll be referring to it as spontaneous happenstance from now on. To see the scene again, follow the jump!
"Follow the Leader" ended on quite a dramatic and shocking note tonight as Locke revealed to Ben that he wasn't going to see Jacob to reunite with his people. He was going to see Jacob to kill him. Why? Well, your guess is as good as ours, but at this point the stock answer seems to be "The island told me to do it." What was even more interesting was how troubled Richard seemed to be about taking Locke, and the others to Jacob. It almost made me wonder if Ben wasn't the one originally keeping Jacob locked up (remember when Locke first saw Jacob and he whispered, "save me" to him?). What if Richard has played a part in keeping Jacob locked up as well. And what's more, am I the only one who thought that the island and Jacob were one in the same, or linked together in some way? Follow the jump for this video investigation.
I'm back!! After a very busy time and a fantastic vacation it is time to get back to my episode rating reviews. I want to thank Laklost for filling in for me last week and doing two episode reviews. It was fantastic and a hard act to follow. Thank you Laklost, you are the best!!
I was stunned after watching "Some Like it Hoth". Not stunned because it was such a great episode, but stunned that our users liked it so much. They gave it a 8.52 average, which was dragged down some by a two and my 6. I am usually not that far off in opinion from our users. 76% gave this episode a 9 or 10 rating! Every so often, LOST hits us with a mind-blowing episode that reminds us why we love this show so much. Expectations are running high that tonight's offering, "Dead is Dead", will be that kind of episode. After all, last week teased us with a trip back to the future where a resurrected Locke finally had the chance to confront his killer, Ben Linus. Tonight, it looks like we'll see more of this confrontation as well as some of Ben's off-island goings on. Will we learn more about Ben and his relationship with the island and it's mysterious powers? What is Locke's destiny, now that he has conquered death and returned to the island? Will we finally see Richard Alpert traversing the island atop smokey, "yee-hawing" all the while, to judge Ben's transgressions (and then have Smokey eat him)? Tune in tonight for the Ben-Locke showdown! More details after the jump!
Whatever Happened, Happened gave us some interesting scenes, if not a compelling overall episode. Still, we got to see the return of Locke, Ben being sent off to be Otherized, and a couple of great conversations between Hurley and Miles. In this week's Talking LOST, Astro and I discuss the inevitability of stale snacks, free will versus pre-destination, the relationship between Widmore and Eloise, and our future careers as inept vigilante super heroes. Somehow, it all related to last night's LOST (I think). Follow the link to read our conversation.
It's time for some spring cleaning. I have all this information, all this conjecturing and theorizing about Lost crammed into my head. I have a serious need to open the door, let the dust mites go scattering, and lay all this stuff out on the floor and organize it!
There are several huge questions that for the narrative have to be addressed in order for the story to resolve. Who are the powers vying for the island? How will the island relate to the struggle? What will the struggle mean for our protagonists? We'll call these three questions our three cleaning boxes. I've heard it said that the best way to sort clutter is to have three boxes marked Throw, Move, Give. It must be very smart to use that system - I wouldn't know! But I can mark our Lost spring cleaning boxes Power, Island and Protagonists. Knowing how us Lost-phytes love to parce words I better clear up what I mean by each of these.
This set of miscellaneous and user requested images from "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" include: The canoes at the Ajira crash site, Hurley's painting, Helen's grave, Sayid's Build Our World shirt, Locke's nurse board, Walt's school, Walt, the Hydra desk, and Locke's suicide note, just after he wrote it. So, Locke's pseudonym was bestowed upon him by none other than Charles Widmore. Locke is given a new name, and a new passport to trek the globe with. According to the passport, Bentham is a Canadian, born in New York in 1948. Take a look after the jump.
Tonight we saw John Locke talking with Caesar, and the other survivors of Ajira flight 316. We saw from the wreckage of the plane that they crashed on the small island that houses the Hydra Station. The station appears to be abandoned, and if Locke and company are indeed in the same time as Jack, Kate, and Hurley, during Dharma's heyday, then why would the Hydra be abandoned. The answer, John Locke and company (including Frank and Sun) crashed on the present day island, while Jack, Kate, and Hurley "flashed" to the island's past.
This set of miscellaneous and user requested images from "316" include: A bloody Ben, Jack's eye, Dharma Jin, dead Locke, Locke's suicide note, Caesar, and Doubting Thomas. Follow the link below to view the images and let us know what you think in the comments.
Yes, the title of this investigation does indeed sound like a new children's book set to hit the bookstores soon, but its nothing more than a reference in Lost. When the Orchid disappears before their eyes, Locke is forced to crawl down a Well that sits nearby in order to reach the donkey wheel of time travel.
5x04 "The Little Prince" is the first episode of season 5 that has really divided SWLS. A 7.43 rating is the lowest of the season but it does not tell the whole story. This episode has earned a season low rating of 5 by four voters, with a couple of 10. The main point of contention appears to be the lack of "surprises" in this episode and what constitutes a WOW moment.
Ben, looking for a place to stash Locke's body, heads (where else) to a local Butcher Shop. He is greeted by Jill, who apparently is in on Ben's plan to get back to the island with the Oceanic Six. Is Locke's corpse really going to be sitting in the freezer at a butcher shop? Not a very pleasant thought, but I'm sure Locke wouldn't mind. More pics from the meat shop following the link below.
This is the compass that Richard gives to Locke. Locke is known to have had at least 2 compasses on the island in the past, but this compass appears to not be one of those. This compass does, however, appear to be the exact same compass that Richard showed to a young Locke last season when he did the test on him.
Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse participated in ComicCon panel discussion and an interview with the cable station G4. Ew.com gave the following report on the Lost panel discussion. Lost executive producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse weren't expected to reveal much of anything about the upcoming season at their Comic-Con panel Saturday; production on the drama won't begin for another three weeks in Hawaii and the writers are typically loathe to give spoilers away, anyway. Still, the duo didn't disappoint. They immediately took questions from the audience and gave Lost memorabilia to anyone who made it up to the microphone. Besides handing out nifty prizes like an autographed life jacket and a T-shirt that read, "I asked a question about Richard Alpert and all I got was this lousy T-shirt," the producers did offer up a few tidbits about the coming year. Jin and Locke will appear in one form or another, Rousseau's story will finally be told, and Walt's dog Vincent will stage a comeback (some fan, in fact, actually inquired about the dog's status). Oh, and Lindelof insisted that the Island did not move in the finale. Matthew Fox (pictured) showed up, too, mostly to glad-hand a fan and smile pretty for the room
This was a very exciting episode. It had so many of the classic Lost elements: Locke on a journey towards destiny, Sayid taking things into his own hands, bad guys doing bad things, Ben being creepy, Hurley with all the good lines! Not a lot of romance but they gave us a double dose of that last week, so we were all set in that department. As always they gave us a few answers and a whole lot of new questions. Many people felt that the show was choppy. It is very obvious that these post-strike episodes are making up for lost time by packing a lot of action and information into a what little time they have remaining. I am okay with this. I have been frustrated by enough episodes that seemed to drag on and on that I will now take a condensed, choppy version and I will savor every fast-paced moment of it.
More of my thoughts on this episode after the jump.
Kid Locke is asked by an immortal Richard Alpert to pick from a display of items objects which he already owns. This sort of test is used to pick a new Dali Lama when the current one dies. Is John Locke a reincarnation of sorts of the island, or Jacob? Perhaps his quest to find Jacob is sort of like Leroy Green's quest to find The Master in "The Last Dragon"? Sho' nuff! Locke fails the test when he picks the knife as being one of the objects he already owns. Other items present include a comic book, Book of Laws, a compass, and a vial with a coarse sand-like material.
A shot of the compass Locke holds as a young boy when Richard comes to visit him doesn't appear to be the same compass (inset) that Locke has used on the island.
We get to see a slightly nerdy John Locke as a teenager who got shoved into a locker at school. But if you look closely you'll see that whoever's locker that is happens to be a fan of Geronimo Jackson.
Locke is given a special invitation to Camp Mittelos as a teenager, and we see clearly that Richard Alpert, and possibly the "savages" were searching for someone special for a very long time.
