The readers at SWLS loved Jughead. It earned the highest rating of any episode over the last two seasons with an 8.96 rating. The reveal of Charles Widmore being an Other on the island in 1954 was a big hit with our members. Most of us were surprised by this revelation or at least finding out this answer during Jughead. Having a hydrogen bomb on the island split some of the fans opinions. Some were disappointed that something manmade may play a big part in the story of Lost. But overall the fantastic season 5 continues to thrill the viewers.

Time travel sure is messy, isn't it? Last week, and again today, Jugdish wrote articles talking about his frustration, as a non-sci-fi geek (unlike myself) in understanding it all. I'm a huge sci-fi fan, and always have been, but I too was hoping they wouldn't go down this road. Not because I don't like it, because this is some of the most fantastic and fun television I have ever watched. But I totally understand how people unfamiliar with time travel, or sci-fi could be frustrated. Hell, even people who DO love sci-fi and time travel can get flustered in all of this mess, myself included. So, at the suggestion of Jugdish, I'm going to dish out some of my thoughts on time travel in the Lost world. I'm going to mostly focus on those darned old rules, because that seems to be the root of everyone's issues. Just remember, time travel isn't really possible (as far as we know) and therefore everything I say, and everything everyone else says on this site is purely their own understanding and conjecture. This of course amplifies our problem of understanding it, but we are truly at the mercy of the writers on this.

Last week I wrote about my views of time travel as a Lost fan, but also as a science fiction newbie. I came to the conclusion that I could live with the time travel since it was linear. I got the impression that they were going to avoid paradoxes and use it as a story telling technique. Daniel Faraday and Pierre Chang both explained that you can not go back in time and change the past which means you can not change the future. After observing 5x03 "Jughead" I believe they have achieved one of the goals, but failed on the other.

Last night's episode of Lost, "Jughead," had its fair share of "Holy cow, what did he just say!?" moments. Like when we learned that uber-rich (and uber-mysterious) businessman Charles Widmore was funding physicist Daniel Faraday's time travel research. Or that Widmore himself was once a Latin-speaking Other on the very island he's spent the last 20 years trying to find. And then there's that little fact that, oh my, there's a nuclear bomb on the island!

This episode title brought about a lot of curiosity. Is "Jughead" a person, place or thing? Is it the character in the Archie comics? Is it a partial shout out to a certain "moderator extraordinaire" that has a thing for feisty, green-eyed brunettes on the run? Well, now we know one thing for certain: Jughead is Da BOMB!! Um, sorry. I'm sorry. That was pretty bad, wasn't it? I... I just couldn't help myself.

Daniel and company quickly realize that Richard and his band of Others have a big problem on their hands in the form of a hydrogen bomb. When Daniel is finally taken to the bomb, we see that the episode shares the name with the bomb, Jughead. Daniel has to quickly tell Ellie (his mom) that they need to bury the bomb to avoid destroying the island before he flashes to another time. But did you know that there was a real nuclear test code-named Jughead that took place in 1954? Follow the jump for more info.

LOST returned last week via an exciting double dose of Season 5 with "Because You Left" and "The Lie". The new season picked up right where we left off, flashing back and forth between the Oceanic 6 and those still left on the time jumping island. The new episodes gave us a lot to talk about, and much to anticipate. "Jughead", the third episode of Season 5, airs tonight at 9pm EST on ABC.
