In one of the best scenes of the night Dr. Chang busts in on Miles, Jin, and Hurley getting ready to flee dharmaville. Chang wants to know if they're really from the future, and Hurley awkwardly denies it. Chang knows just the question to ask too, first asking when Hurley was born, and finally asking him who was the president. You can see Hurley struggling for just a moment before he spills the beans. What's even more funny is that when they arrived at Dharmaville, Hurley asked Sawyer what he should do if they ask him questions, like who the president is. And Sawyer just responded wtih this isn't a gameshow. See! If Sawyer had just told him who the president was, Hurley could have pulled it off!

042109laklost.jpgWhether or not we're ready, Lost is ending: four episodes to go this season and the final seventeen chapters next season. All of the players are in place. Mainland life has been soundly rejected and life on the island is all that matters.

5x13_swan_2.jpgHurley and Miles were treated to a nice little surprise tonight when they got to see the Swan station being built. We also learned that the grid it was being built in is in the hostile's area and they are building it, somehow, in secret (or at least they seem to think that they are). Hurley was also a little freaked out as he watched the workers stamp his anti-lucky numbers into the hatch door as a serial number (why exactly the hatch door needs a serial number is beyond me).

5x12_risk.jpgEver since Sun and Frank went back to Othersville a couple of weeks ago, and we got to see the condition the barracks were in, plus the fact that there were apparantly still Dharma photos hanging up, people started to cry alternate timeline. I mean, how else could the barracks look SO different than when we last saw them. The theory was that something must have been changed in the past to cause the difference. But tonight when Ben entered his old house he looked at a Risk board laying on a table, a subtle clue that nothing has changed.

5x11_hurley_miles.jpgHurley and Miles started a new, special kind of friendship tonight that I hope we see more of in the future. Of course, it does make me worry for MIles a little. Afterall, people who come in contact with Hurley don't always fare so well. But in Whatever Happened, Happened there was some fantastic dialog between the two on the specifics of time travel. Hurley definitely represents many of the feelings the fans have had this season. Follow the jump for a clip of their time travel discussion from tonight.

033009.laklost.jpg It's time for some spring cleaning. I have all this information, all this conjecturing and theorizing about Lost crammed into my head. I have a serious need to open the door, let the dust mites go scattering, and lay all this stuff out on the floor and organize it!

There are several huge questions that for the narrative have to be addressed in order for the story to resolve. Who are the powers vying for the island? How will the island relate to the struggle? What will the struggle mean for our protagonists? We'll call these three questions our three cleaning boxes. I've heard it said that the best way to sort clutter is to have three boxes marked Throw, Move, Give. It must be very smart to use that system - I wouldn't know! But I can mark our Lost spring cleaning boxes Power, Island and Protagonists. Knowing how us Lost-phytes love to parce words I better clear up what I mean by each of these.

5x09_1977_recruits_photo.jpgSun, who is definitely in 2007, was shown a photo tonight by the enigmatic Christian Shepard. The photo was of the 1977 New Recruits at the Dharma Initiative and included Jack, Hurley, and Kate. Next we got to see the actual photo being taken in 1977. When comparing the photo Christian showed Sun to the actual event there appears to be a missing person from the actual 1977 event. Or is there? If you look, there appears to be a missing person on the back row, right side, next to the guy on the very end. In the photo Christian showed there is another man back there. However, on closer inspection it appears that the man may just be very very small. You can see a foot (circled in the image) sticking out at the very bottom of the second image on the next page. Judge for yourself, is this man just hiding, or is there a person missing from the actual event?

"The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" showed a some very interesting conversations between Charles Widmore and John Locke. Widmore tells John that "The island needs you John. It has for a long time. John finally asks a key question, "What makes you think that I'm so special?" He gets the very cryptic reply "Because you are". But why is he special. Why is Locke the special chosen leader? What characteristics has John shown during his life to make these powerful people believe he is so special?

Episode 5x06 "316" set a new ratings record with an incredible 9.35 average. SWLS members absolutely loved this episode. 73% of all votes were a perfect 10. 92% of all votes were for scores of 8 or higher. There was a vote one vote each for a rating of 6 or 7. Neither voter posted a reason for those ratings. Viewers want the main characters of Lost to be together and we now have the Oceanic 6 (minus Aaron) back on the island with Sawyer, Jin, Juliet and friends. Watching the Oceanic 6 converge on the same flight with Ben and Frank Lapidus was true television magic. Please go to the next page to see the SWLS users' comments on this outstanding episode.

5x06_comic_book_y_the_last_man.jpgThematic literary references related to LOST often pop up in the show. In "316", we get a long glimpse of Hurley reading a spanish version of "Y: The Last Man". The story is about "the only man to survive the mysterious simultaneous death of every male mammal on Earth. " Find more HERE. We also see Ben reading James Joyce's Ulysses on the plane. "Almost every variety of human experience is crammed into the accordian folds of a single day, which makes Ulysses not just an experimental work but the very last word in realism. " More on that one, HERE. Pics after the jump.

normal_5x05-death-040.jpgThere is a quick scene in 5x05, "This Place is Death" that features Montan listening to a transmission of The Numbers on a radio. They make a plan to head to the radio tower to see if they can make use of the antenna to call for help. Those with sharp ears, however, recognized something familiar in the voice repeating 4 8 15 16 23 42 on the radio. Could it really be Hurley? Take a listen by clicking the Continue Reading Link below and let us know what you think in the comments section! Given Hurley's history with the numbers, and the incorporation of time travel into the fabric of LOST, it does make a certain sense. We've seen several times already, that events in the past happened because things were done involving time travel in the future that we previously weren't aware of. Could so much of what has now transpired on the island been due to Hurley himself broadcasting the numbers? Or, are people just hearing something that isn't there?

5x04 "The Little Prince" is the first episode of season 5 that has really divided SWLS. A 7.43 rating is the lowest of the season but it does not tell the whole story. This episode has earned a season low rating of 5 by four voters, with a couple of 10. The main point of contention appears to be the lack of "surprises" in this episode and what constitutes a WOW moment.

The new seasons has started off with a big bang according to SWLS members. Both "Because You Left" and "The Lie" earned huge ratings that rank right up with the best episodes from the past. "Because You Left" earned a slightly higher 8.69 to "The Lie" rating of 8.64. Many posters stated that they wait on giving out 10's to that one episode that just blows them away. During season 4 that was 4x11 "Cabin Fever" which had a rating of 8.94. So the first two episodes earned huge ratings from very tough scorers. Neither episode earned a score lower than a 7, so no one was disappointed with season 5. We had some interesting themes come from the users comments.

Hurley lie.jpg

ABC has decided to follow up the preview episode of Season 5 with another new episode. This is not a two hour season premier but separate episode that was originally designed to be shown a week later. This episode is a Hurley centric show that will focus on the Oceanic 6 and the 'lie" they have been telling for the last three years. A sneak peek has already been released by abc. It shows the Oceanic 6 discussing "The Lie" on Penny's boat before they were "rescued". An earlier sneak peek showed Kate being given a court order for a paternity test for Aaron. It appears that forces are working behind the scenes to get the Oceanic 6 back together and to expose the truth.

Damon and Carlton have sent one more sneak peek to the participants of the Dharma Initiative online game. This one is from Season 5 episode 2 titled "The Lie" From the title it appears that this episode will focus on the lie told by the Oceanic 6. The sneak peek takes place after the Oceanic 6 are rescued by Penny, but before they leave to be "discovered". The are discussing the reason for "The Lie" and Hurley states that he wants to tell the truth. After all, the island is gone! The lie is also a major part of an earlier sneak peek that shows Kate being ordered to give a paternity test for Aaron. The Oceanic 6 lie must be a major part of season 5.

There has been some Lost news making its way out from the current filming in Hawaii. Reliable information is few and far between but sources at tvguide.com and ew.com have come across a few new items.
-A second new character has been cast. Said Taghimaoui, a Frenchman seen in traitor, will play Caesar. Not much is known about Caesar except that he is mysterious and will be associated with Llana, a new character played by Zuleikha Robinson. Carlton Cuse stated that Caesar will play "an important part of the setup for the final act of the show in season 6".
-Michelle Rodriquez will appear in the second episode along with Cheech Marin. It appears that Hurley will be seeing dead people again.
-Desmond has filmed a scene with Ben.
-Hurley has filmed a scene in a jail.
-Sawyer, Juliet, Daniel, Miles, Charlotte and some one else will learn of Jin's fate at the precise moment we do during episode 4.
-Claire will not be in season 5 but will be back for season 6.
Please post your thoughts about these tidbits. SWLS would like to hear your thoughts and prediction for season 5.

This week we received a more laid back episode of Lost compared to last week's thrill a minute "The Shape of Things to Come". "Something Nice Back Home" gave us a more personal look at the lives of the Losties and started to set up the season finale. We learned that Jack and Kate did finally end up together. It does not appear that the happiness lasts very long. Kate and Jack episodes usually bring the most varied reactions. This episode was no difference. It was rated from scores of 1 to 10, with 69% giving a rating of 7 or higher with an average of 7.1. Overall it earned a positive rating but SWLS users saw the episode in very different light. We will discuss both positive and negative reactions plus give my review of the episode.
