What's Hot: Season 6 Start Date Announced
Well, part of being a fan of Lost, and making the occasional predictions means you're sometimes wrong. I've been claiming for most of the season now, since we first caught the back of the statue, that it was the Egyptian god Anubis. Tonight, we finally got to see the front of the statue, and it is very clear now that it was not Anubis at all. It appears, as best as I can tell, that the statue is either Sobek or Taweret. For more great information on both, follow the jump.
Dear Damon and Carlton. Okay guys, we get it. Thanks so much for making it clear, but I think even the non-believers now see that there is obviously a tie-in with the island and the Egyptians. Thanks, we appreciate the clarity.
We've all seen now that Egyptian influences played a fairly larger role in the history of the island. With tonight's episode we also saw the first glimpse that Dharma may have caught on to those historical influences as well, and appear to be studying the history and culture of the Egyptians as well. And as we all know, Dharma will later incorporate Egyptian hieroglyphics into the Clock of Doom in the Swan Station, though for what reasons we don't know.
While most of us are sitting around, writing silly little blog posts about what exactly the statue could be, Popular Mechanics is going straight to the source, and asking James P. Allen, a Wilbour Professor of Egyptology and Chair of Egyptology and Ancient Western Asian Studies at Brown University just what the deal is. You can check out Professor Allen's taken on it by following the link below to the Popular Mechanics website.

Egyptian themes continue with Paul's Ankh necklace, seen in "LaFleur". We've already seen hieroglyphs, an egyptian-esque statue, Guyliner Alpert, and a character named Horace... what's will all the Egyptian nods? According to my good friend, Wiki, the symbol means "eternal life". That didn't seem to work out for Paul, but perhaps Guyliner took his body in order to resurrect him and then kill him a second time to make up for the death of two Others. Larger pic and comments after the jump.
At long last we got a glimpse of what is assumed to be the four-toed statue tonight, but unfortunately we only got to see the back of it, and only for about 3 seconds. The pic is above and although it doesn't give a lot of description, early Egyptian connections scream from this. Especially when you consider other Egyptian items such as the hyroglypics and such. What do you think?? Could the Egyptians have gotten their knowledge from the original inhabitants of the island? Or was the island simply populated with early Egyptians?
