What's Hot: Season 6 Start Date Announced
Tonight we learned that all Ben had to do in order to summon the Smoke Monster was unclog the crapper. Once it's unstopped, ticked off Smokey comes a running. In addition we have images of Alex, Desmond getting shot by Ben, Ben bleeding under water, and the temple again. Follow the jump for images.
Episode 5x06 "316" set a new ratings record with an incredible 9.35 average. SWLS members absolutely loved this episode. 73% of all votes were a perfect 10. 92% of all votes were for scores of 8 or higher. There was a vote one vote each for a rating of 6 or 7. Neither voter posted a reason for those ratings. Viewers want the main characters of Lost to be together and we now have the Oceanic 6 (minus Aaron) back on the island with Sawyer, Jin, Juliet and friends. Watching the Oceanic 6 converge on the same flight with Ben and Frank Lapidus was true television magic. Please go to the next page to see the SWLS users' comments on this outstanding episode.
If you haven't already read AstroJones' article titled "A Response to Jugdish: Time is a Two-by-Four...", I suggest you do....it talks about the two major types of Time Travel depicted in Sci-Fi shows & movies. Also if you ever plan to build a time machine and go back in time to kill Hitler, his article will prepare you for some of the possible problems you may face.
I really enjoyed his article, and wrote a lengthy response about my in-depth thoughts about Time Travel which I've had over the years. Surprisingly it fits in well with what's been happening on Lost. Even more surprising, some people not only understood my ramblings, but enjoyed it. So here I attempt to touch up my initial ramblings on AstroJones' article for the front page.
Tonight we managed to get a few shots of Daniel's Journal again. Several of the pages look similar to the ones we saw last year, and they mostly appear to contain equations.
Once again Michael Aussiello is breaking some interesting news on Lost. It appears that two of Lost's most mysterious characters will be making an appearance in season 5. Aussiello reports that Fionnula Flanagan, Desmond's reluctant grey haired ring seller, will be back on Lost during season 5. She has been previously seen in "Flashes Before Your Eyes" and in a picture on the Father's desk at the monastery where Desmond once lived. She will be back with a "major connection to a major character". She is one creepy lady who should bring an interesting story. Also Lance Reddick, who plays Matthew Abaddon, was recently seen filming in Hawaii. Aussiello believes they are filming the six episode of season 5.
If you're like me, as you prepare for tonight's installment of LOST on ABC, you're thinking back to last week's offering, "The Constant", and finding yourself still puzzling over the ramifications of that show, and how it may or may not impact the rest of the season, and future seasons of LOST. Time Travel has been a small theme in the multitude of themes in LOST since Desmond blew himself through time after turning the failsafe key in the hatch. At that time, the rules of "time travel" were loosely explained to Desmond (and us) by an enigmatic elderly shopkeep. The main rule basically being that the future cannot be significantly altered. Some sort of cosmic-will would "course correct" and make sure whatever was supposed to happen, would happen. Thus, despite Desmond's ability to foresee Charlie's multiple deaths, he was forced to give into the laws of infinity and explain to Charlie, "Your gonna die". This steadfast rule, however, seemed to be broken, or at least stretched to the limits, in "The Constant". Love it, or hate it, LOST took a Quantum Leap last week.

"The Constant" was a mind blowing episode. In more ways than one. Everyone's going to be hitting up their astrophysicist friend tomorrow to help them explain what the heck was going on. Especially if you looked into Dan Faraday's journal... or chalkboard. Up until this point, the writer's of LOST have avoided any blatant paradoxes in their time travel stories, but not this time. Here goes the mind bending question of the night (which was asked in the episode), wouldn't Faraday remember his encounter with Desmond? It also appears than past-Dan first learned of the "formula" when Desmond told him the numbers from future-Dan, who got the numbers from his notebook... when he met Des... ah, never mind, I have a headache. It sure looked like future-Dan had never seen that note about Desmond being his constant until he was reading it on the beach. Ah well. Hopefully Sam and Ziggy will pop in and explain everything to us next week. Jump the break to see more pictures from the journal, and lets see what we can figure out!
"Eggtown" turned in the lowest numbers of the season in SWLS episode ratings, and segment ratings. Does this mean we're getting tired of Kate and her story? Or were viewers just wanting a little more Lostian action and mystery? "Eggtown" (not my favorite episode title), was had a fairly strong story, but was also pretty straightforward. Of course, that is because they were trying their hardest to set us up at the end, when we thought we'd see mini-Sawyer in the crib, only to find out it was devil-baby, Aaron. Other than that, there weren't a lot of twists, hidden eggs, or mysteries for us to consider.
I'm betting ratings will improve with tonight's "The Constant". A lot of people are wondering what happened to Lawnmower Man, Desmond and Sayid when they coptered off the island, and hopefully, tonight we get that answer. The Desmond-centric episodes usually deliver, so lets hope that trend continues with episode 4x05, "The Constant". Given the apparent time-distortion phenomena we've seen in this season already, what can we expect from a Desmond McFly centric episode? I can't wait!
In 3x22, "Greatest Hits", we see Charlie in his flashback standing on a corner, performing an Oasis song when he is interrupted by a sudden downpour. At first look, it seems this is the same scene from Flashes Before Your Eyes. But if so, where is Desmond? On closer inspection, however, it is evident we are witnessing two separate, but independent events. Charlie's shirt is different, he doesn't appear to have the sign, the surrounding buildings are different (although there is a NewsAgent stand in both, the font is different on the two stands).
In 3x17, "Catch-22", Desmond has joined a monastery where they bottle wine under the label Moriah Vineyards. As Desmond mentions, Moriah is the mountain where Abraham was tested and asked to sacrifice Isaac. Although the bottle indicates it is grown in Eddington, Scotland, a quick search on google maps and google earth returns no results for Eddington, Scotland other than an Eddington Dr.
In 3x17, "Catch-22", Desmond is "fired" from a a monastery. When he goes to turn in his belongings, we get a glimpse of a picture on his superior's desk. The desk shows the elder Monk with none-other than the mysterious clock-lady from 3x08 who was aware of Desmond's time travel trip. Very interesting.
When Desmond travels back to his past in "Flashes Before Your Eyes", we find him on the floor, having apparently fallen from a ladder while painting the wall. Next to him lies a paint can, with the word "FUTU..." on it. The end of the word is covered with paint, but it could possible spell "FUTURE". This might be a stretch, but since the episode had to do with the them of time, I thought it should go up.
In "Live Together, Die Alone", we see Desmond at a cafe where he runs into Libby. As they discuss the sailboat race, a decorative plate can be seen on a shelf in the background over Desmond's shoulder. The plate resembles the Oceanic Airlines logo. This is similar to the decorative piece seen on a shelf in the Orientation Film in Gerald DeGroot's office, which also resembles the Oceanic Airlines logo (which turns out to be made of straw). Neither are a perfect match, but may represent an ongoing motiff.
In "Live Together, Die Alone", Desmond comes up short on cash in a cafe in the states. A helpful customer loans Desmond the money - it turns out to be Libby. Desmond jokingly asks if Libby has another 42,000 he can borrow - which gets Libby's attention. The two sit together, and Desmond tells Libby how he plans to enter a sailboat race to win his true love back from her father. The only problem is, he doesn't have a boat. Libby tells Desmond that her husband died about a month ago, and that she has his boat, which is named Elizabeth after her. Libby tells Desmond he has to take the boat, that is what her husband would want. Desmond accepts, and makes a promise to win the race for love.
In "Live Together, Die Alone", we finally meet Desmond's hatch-mate, Kelvin. It turns out, Kelvin Inman is the man we previously know as Joe Inman from Sayid's past. Joe Inman was the CIA operative that trained Sayid in torturin in the Gulf War. It turns out, Joe Inman joined the Dharma Initiatve some time after the Gulf War, and was assigned to the Swan Station with someone named Radzinsky. Radzinsky eventually killed himself, leaving Inman alone in the Swan Station until Desmond washed up on the island. Inman was planning on fixing up Desmond's boat and leaving Desmond to push the button by himself, but Desmond found out about his plan. Desmond confronted Inman, accidentally killing him.
When Desmond gets out of prison in "Live Together, Die Alone", he is intercepted by Charles Widmore. Mr. Widmore has been keeping all the letters Desmond had sent to his daughter, Penelope, while he was in prison. The letters indicate that Penny was living in Knightsbridge, which is the same city that Lucy Heatherton was living in (Lucy is the girl that Charlie cons in Season 1 - ends up taking a job for her father's copier company).
This error was confirmed when "Orientation" was re-aired, and the production team had corrected the original photo.
Original Investigation
The photo seen in 2x03 and 2x23 are both supposed to be of Desmond & Penelope, but the two show different women. The latter one shows the actress, Sonya Wagner, who played Penelope in the finale, so the former is probably a continuity error showing a stand-in actress before she was cast. In a re-airing of 2x03, the original photo was replaced with the photoshopped version.
During the funeral ceremonies in "Three Minutes", Sun looks out to the ocean and notices a boat. She screams out "Boat!", and everyone turns and looks at the vessel in astonishment. Could this be Desmond's sailboat? Is he on it? Or has it just sailed around the island on its own? Looks like we'll have to wait until the season finale to see what is aboard the ship.
