lost_5x15_eloise_pregnant.jpgTonight Charles seemed to indicate that Ellie was pregnant at the camp. In the video after the jump you can barely hear the sound, but Charles puts his hand on Ellie's stomach and says "not in your condition." This isn't necessarily a huge reveal, since it seems obvious that she would be pregnant with Daniel at this point in time, but it is something that some people might have missed. Check it out after the jump.

042109laklost.jpgWhether or not we're ready, Lost is ending: four episodes to go this season and the final seventeen chapters next season. All of the players are in place. Mainland life has been soundly rejected and life on the island is all that matters.

5x12_ben_ethan.jpgWe got a glimpse of young Ethan tonight, hanging around with Ben as he went to kill Danielle, but ended up just stealing Alex from her. As confusing as things have become with Ethan's age I'm not sure if this event was intended to be pre-purge or post-purge. Ben's direct dealings with Charles made it seem definitely like it was post-purge, it's just hard to imagine Ethan being that young in 1992.

"The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" aired to very mixed reviews this week. It is the first "controversial' episode this season. The grades ranged from perfect 10's to a low of 3. The three came from admitted John Locke fan Lil. This alone is raising eyebrows. The rating average came out to a season low 7.86. The expectations for this episode were high and many believed that the episode did not deliver. This may have lead to some to grade this episode more harshly. "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" showed a some very interesting conversations between Charles Widmore and John Locke. Widmore tells John that "The island needs you John. It has for a long time. John finally asks a key question, "What makes you think that I'm so special?" He gets the very cryptic reply "Because you are". But why is he special. Why is Locke the special chosen leader? What characteristics has John shown during his life to make these powerful people believe he is so special?

021609blitzwing.jpgIf you haven't already read AstroJones' article titled "A Response to Jugdish: Time is a Two-by-Four...", I suggest you do....it talks about the two major types of Time Travel depicted in Sci-Fi shows & movies. Also if you ever plan to build a time machine and go back in time to kill Hitler, his article will prepare you for some of the possible problems you may face.

I really enjoyed his article, and wrote a lengthy response about my in-depth thoughts about Time Travel which I've had over the years. Surprisingly it fits in well with what's been happening on Lost. Even more surprising, some people not only understood my ramblings, but enjoyed it. So here I attempt to touch up my initial ramblings on AstroJones' article for the front page.

020209jughead.jpgThe readers at SWLS loved Jughead. It earned the highest rating of any episode over the last two seasons with an 8.96 rating. The reveal of Charles Widmore being an Other on the island in 1954 was a big hit with our members. Most of us were surprised by this revelation or at least finding out this answer during Jughead. Having a hydrogen bomb on the island split some of the fans opinions. Some were disappointed that something manmade may play a big part in the story of Lost. But overall the fantastic season 5 continues to thrill the viewers.

013009Richard.jpgLast week I wrote about my views of time travel as a Lost fan, but also as a science fiction newbie. I came to the conclusion that I could live with the time travel since it was linear. I got the impression that they were going to avoid paradoxes and use it as a story telling technique. Daniel Faraday and Pierre Chang both explained that you can not go back in time and change the past which means you can not change the future. After observing 5x03 "Jughead" I believe they have achieved one of the goals, but failed on the other.

Charles Widmore an Other in JugheadCharles Widmore became an even more integral part of the Lost mythology last season when we discovered that he not only sent the Freighter people to the island, which he'd been searching for, but he was also a long time rival of Ben Linus. Tonight we learned yet another important historical element of Mr. Widmore, he was on the island in 1954, as an Other in Richard Alpert's group.

The audience of Lost has been looking for something since Season One and the night that Claire woke up in the caves screaming that someone was attacking her. We called them the Others because they are mercilessly at cross purposes to our group of Losties from Oceanic 815. We figured that they had a leader and guessed that it was everyone from Tom Friendly to the erstwhile Jacob to enigmatic Richard until we realized by the end of Season Three that it was Ben. Now we seem to be looking for a bad guy -- the person to aim our energy and anger at, the person to defeat in order for our heroes to be free and equal. The advertising trailers for Season Four have suggested that the freighter folks are bringing worse trouble than any we have known on the island thus far. So we've been watching, waiting for a name. Charles Widmore seems now to be on the short list of people to call villain. But I've got news for you. The writers of Lost are screaming at us that there is one villain and his name is Benjamin Linus. No other character in the Lost universe is more of a lying manipulator than he is. No one else has stooped lower to reach his goals. The audience seems prepared to forgive him while they castigate Locke for misguided decisions, Jack for arrogance and Michael for working for personal reasons. I suggest we redirect our judgment where it belongs.
