What's Hot: Season 6 Start Date Announced
Whether or not we're ready, Lost is ending: four episodes to go this season and the final seventeen chapters next season. All of the players are in place. Mainland life has been soundly rejected and life on the island is all that matters.
Since Jugdish is on a well-deserved Spring Break, I had the pleasure to pore over the voting and comments about "Whatever Happened, Happened" and "Dead is Dead." Lost Season Five episodes 11 and 12 were quite well received by our voters. The first installment of these two episodes revolving around Ben Linus received an 8.05 while the second got a very high 9.28. I am in complete agreement with such high ratings. From Kate's compassion, to Richard and the Others' dealings with Ben and Charles, to Locke and Smokey confronting Ben the story seems to be building to a huge climactic point. Follow the jump to get more opinions.
ESB got the comments going with praise for "Whatever Happened": "I loved how we saw Kate's growth and why Kate came to the Island." Many posters agreed with this. Ladybug absolutely "loved that Kate re-visited Cassidy. They finally talked!" Jugdish said, "Where Aaron is makes sense and is logical. I also liked that it was a human response with a real emotional reason. Kate is finally doing the right thing for someone else." Geronimo Jackson was "glad that Claire's visit to Kate not to bring Aaron back to the island from previous season came full circle to have Kate return Aaron to his Grandma."
It's confirmed: "Dead is Dead." Locke was, but now he is not. Ben Linus is scared of what that means, but Locke is not. It is truly a new chapter in the history of the island. Our spring cleaning project might just be at its most difficult point. We might be tempted to look away and just let things be. But we saw what happened to Jack Shephard in LA when he tried to not think about the island. Matthew Fox said, ''I've always believed part of what was destroying him was his lack of physical proximity to the Island.'' So let's put ourselves in the thick of it and pack up our cleaning box marked "Island." We are asking the three main questions that have to be answered in order for the story of Lost to resolve: Who are the powers vying for the island? What role will the island play in the struggle? And what will the struggle mean for our Protagonists. My first two articles attempted to sort out the Protagonists, alive, dead or otherwise. Locke got his own treatment as the new man. Now we have to ask what is the island?
Tonight we learned that all Ben had to do in order to summon the Smoke Monster was unclog the crapper. Once it's unstopped, ticked off Smokey comes a running. In addition we have images of Alex, Desmond getting shot by Ben, Ben bleeding under water, and the temple again. Follow the jump for images.
When Ben first enters Smokey's Lair, or the Temple catacombs, there are lots and lots of hieroglyphics and other Egyptian looking statues and such in the room. Follow the jump for a series of images of what Ben saw.
We got a glimpse of young Ethan tonight, hanging around with Ben as he went to kill Danielle, but ended up just stealing Alex from her. As confusing as things have become with Ethan's age I'm not sure if this event was intended to be pre-purge or post-purge. Ben's direct dealings with Charles made it seem definitely like it was post-purge, it's just hard to imagine Ethan being that young in 1992.
Unlike Eko, who felt no shame for his sins, Ben weeps at his mistake in causing Alex's death. Makes one wonder just what the Pilot's sins were for the killin' he got. Anyway, for those interested there are 49 holes in the "smokey grate." Anyone wanna bet holes 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42 are important? Check out the video after the jump to rewatch the judgement.
When we saw the back of the statue a few weeks ago, it looked a lot like the Egyptian God of the Underworld, Anubis, but there were quite a few naysayers out there. I'm sure that even after another appearance by Anubis in tonight's episode, we'll still have those naysayers, and that's fine. Tonight, while Ben was in the Temple catacombs we got a glimpse of some drawings on the wall. Pictured above appears to be Anubis with Smokey in front of him. You could probably even say that on the left side that could be the donkey wheel. Also an Ankh and some snakes and some other random stuff. Let us know what your thoughts on this are after the jump.
So, in a very cliffhanger-ish style, tonight's episode ended with Sayid shooting Young Ben in the chest. The images after the jump show that the bullet wound appears to have penetrated extremely near to his heart. I seriously doubt that a young boy could normally survive a bullet wound of this nature, but something tells me Young Ben will be fine, somehow. Perhaps he is saved, or perhaps Locke wasn't the first person that the island has resurrected. Let us know your thoughts after the jump.
Tonight young Ben provided prisoner Sayid with a book titled A Separate Reality - by Carlos Castaneda published in 1971. The book is supposedly a non-fiction story where Castaneda claims he was under the apprenticeship of a self-proclaimed Yaqui Indian Sorcerer, Don Juan Matus. Whether or not the events in the book took place have been a subject of debate since it was published. However, its also interesting that the title of the book is A Separate Reality. Are the writers hinting that the losties are in an alternate reality, something we touched on in this discussion, or is the book nothing more than a red herring?
Sorry Everyone. Here is the much anticipated recap for the previous episode of Lost. Lafleur's Recap should be coming soon as well.
This week on Lost: Our brains reel over who is good and who is bad. Meanwhile Locke gets hurt in about 5 places -- both physically and otherwise, makes out with a mango and learns that no good deed goes uninsulted.
"The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" showed a some very interesting conversations between Charles Widmore and John Locke. Widmore tells John that "The island needs you John. It has for a long time. John finally asks a key question, "What makes you think that I'm so special?" He gets the very cryptic reply "Because you are". But why is he special. Why is Locke the special chosen leader? What characteristics has John shown during his life to make these powerful people believe he is so special?
