What's Hot: ABC Officially Reveals Statue's Identity
Two weeks ago, during the season finale of Lost, we got the very first full glimpse of the four-toed statue, face and all, just like we were promised by the producers earlier in the season. However, we were also told that it would be clear just who that statue was depicting, and though some obviously saw clearly who it was, there was nothing to give us the official word on it, and some of you, me included, have remained a bit frustrated at the ambiguity of exactly which Egyptian deity the statue was built to represent.
This question has been quite important since it was first asked over a month ago. Tonight we got to hear the answer, in Latin, from Richard. He said, "He who will save us all." This same latin is the phrase that Jacob weaves on his tapestry as well. So will Jacob save them all? Follow the jump to see it again.
Well, part of being a fan of Lost, and making the occasional predictions means you're sometimes wrong. I've been claiming for most of the season now, since we first caught the back of the statue, that it was the Egyptian god Anubis. Tonight, we finally got to see the front of the statue, and it is very clear now that it was not Anubis at all. It appears, as best as I can tell, that the statue is either Sobek or Taweret. For more great information on both, follow the jump.
The season 5 finale started out tonight following a young man who we eventually realized was Jacob. His rival, wearing a black shirt while Jacob wore white, showed up just as the Black Rock was arriving. The two had some words and the rival expressed his desire to kill Jacob, and that he would find a loophole, and Jacob made it very clear that he would be waiting right there, under the statue, whenever the rival was ready. Follow the jump to rewatch the opening scene.
In one of the best scenes of the night Dr. Chang busts in on Miles, Jin, and Hurley getting ready to flee dharmaville. Chang wants to know if they're really from the future, and Hurley awkwardly denies it. Chang knows just the question to ask too, first asking when Hurley was born, and finally asking him who was the president. You can see Hurley struggling for just a moment before he spills the beans. What's even more funny is that when they arrived at Dharmaville, Hurley asked Sawyer what he should do if they ask him questions, like who the president is. And Sawyer just responded wtih this isn't a gameshow. See! If Sawyer had just told him who the president was, Hurley could have pulled it off!
Tonight Charles seemed to indicate that Ellie was pregnant at the camp. In the video after the jump you can barely hear the sound, but Charles puts his hand on Ellie's stomach and says "not in your condition." This isn't necessarily a huge reveal, since it seems obvious that she would be pregnant with Daniel at this point in time, but it is something that some people might have missed. Check it out after the jump.
The Locke we saw tonight was certainly a different John Locke than we're used to seeing. Tonight he was assertive, confident, sure of himself, and most of all, he had a plan and a purpose...oh, and a pig. Locke took Richard and Ben to go find himself at the beechcraft, give himself the compass, and give himself the instructions that he knew he'd need in order to fulfill the remainder of his destiny. Kinda weird, huh? I know many of you are screaming paradox, but I hate that word, so I'll be referring to it as spontaneous happenstance from now on. To see the scene again, follow the jump!
"Follow the Leader" ended on quite a dramatic and shocking note tonight as Locke revealed to Ben that he wasn't going to see Jacob to reunite with his people. He was going to see Jacob to kill him. Why? Well, your guess is as good as ours, but at this point the stock answer seems to be "The island told me to do it." What was even more interesting was how troubled Richard seemed to be about taking Locke, and the others to Jacob. It almost made me wonder if Ben wasn't the one originally keeping Jacob locked up (remember when Locke first saw Jacob and he whispered, "save me" to him?). What if Richard has played a part in keeping Jacob locked up as well. And what's more, am I the only one who thought that the island and Jacob were one in the same, or linked together in some way? Follow the jump for this video investigation.
When Charles Widmore comes to visit a broken down and memory deprived Daniel Faraday, just after the Oceanic wreckage was found, we get a quick glimpse of a magazine on the couch. That magazine is an August 2003 issue of WIRED. The cover says, "The Super Power Issues," as well as "The Impossible Gets Real." There is also a mention of Time Travel on the cover as well.
Daniel Faraday was only with us for 2 short seasons of Lost, but his impact has been huge, and his place in the mythology of Lost is forever set. Tonight, Daniel proved to us that although you can't go back in time and kill your own mother, you can go back in time and GET killed by your own mother. View the video just after the jump.
Tonight, the user requested images include Young Dan, Young Eloise, and Young Charlotte. You'll aslo see the Dharma Shooter helping Radzinsky, Dan's notebook, and a Metronome. Just follow the jump for larger views of the images and let us know if you see anything we didn't.
Dear Damon and Carlton. Okay guys, we get it. Thanks so much for making it clear, but I think even the non-believers now see that there is obviously a tie-in with the island and the Egyptians. Thanks, we appreciate the clarity.
We've all seen now that Egyptian influences played a fairly larger role in the history of the island. With tonight's episode we also saw the first glimpse that Dharma may have caught on to those historical influences as well, and appear to be studying the history and culture of the Egyptians as well. And as we all know, Dharma will later incorporate Egyptian hieroglyphics into the Clock of Doom in the Swan Station, though for what reasons we don't know.
One of the more interesting reveals in Some Like It Hoth was when Miles was Vannapped by good ole Bram, who we know from the Ajira plane crash. Bram seemed to make it quite clear that he was not working for Charles Widmore, nor should MIles work for 'the wrong side.' So if Bram isn't batting for Widmore's team, is he part of Ben's ensemble? Or are Bram and Ilana part of a whole new group, with a whole new set of objectives for the island. I'm starting to get confused and lose track of who's who here. Who's side do you think Bram is on?
Hurley and Miles were treated to a nice little surprise tonight when they got to see the Swan station being built. We also learned that the grid it was being built in is in the hostile's area and they are building it, somehow, in secret (or at least they seem to think that they are). Hurley was also a little freaked out as he watched the workers stamp his anti-lucky numbers into the hatch door as a serial number (why exactly the hatch door needs a serial number is beyond me).
Here are the user requested images from Some Like It Hoth. The images include baby Miles, the checkbook, the dharma classroom, and a couple of dead guys, among other things.
Tonight we learned that all Ben had to do in order to summon the Smoke Monster was unclog the crapper. Once it's unstopped, ticked off Smokey comes a running. In addition we have images of Alex, Desmond getting shot by Ben, Ben bleeding under water, and the temple again. Follow the jump for images.
When Ben first enters Smokey's Lair, or the Temple catacombs, there are lots and lots of hieroglyphics and other Egyptian looking statues and such in the room. Follow the jump for a series of images of what Ben saw.
We got a glimpse of young Ethan tonight, hanging around with Ben as he went to kill Danielle, but ended up just stealing Alex from her. As confusing as things have become with Ethan's age I'm not sure if this event was intended to be pre-purge or post-purge. Ben's direct dealings with Charles made it seem definitely like it was post-purge, it's just hard to imagine Ethan being that young in 1992.
Ever since Sun and Frank went back to Othersville a couple of weeks ago, and we got to see the condition the barracks were in, plus the fact that there were apparantly still Dharma photos hanging up, people started to cry alternate timeline. I mean, how else could the barracks look SO different than when we last saw them. The theory was that something must have been changed in the past to cause the difference. But tonight when Ben entered his old house he looked at a Risk board laying on a table, a subtle clue that nothing has changed.
Follow the jump for more.
When Frank reappeared on the Hydra island Ilana demanded "what lies in the shadow of the statue," an obvious code of somekind that Frank didn't even TRY to guess. I mean, come on, in that situation you at least gotta throw out a guess, like "Twinkies!" So this begs the question, who is Ilana, and who's side is she on? Follow the jump for another look at Ilana's demands.
Unlike Eko, who felt no shame for his sins, Ben weeps at his mistake in causing Alex's death. Makes one wonder just what the Pilot's sins were for the killin' he got. Anyway, for those interested there are 49 holes in the "smokey grate." Anyone wanna bet holes 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and 42 are important? Check out the video after the jump to rewatch the judgement.
When we saw the back of the statue a few weeks ago, it looked a lot like the Egyptian God of the Underworld, Anubis, but there were quite a few naysayers out there. I'm sure that even after another appearance by Anubis in tonight's episode, we'll still have those naysayers, and that's fine. Tonight, while Ben was in the Temple catacombs we got a glimpse of some drawings on the wall. Pictured above appears to be Anubis with Smokey in front of him. You could probably even say that on the left side that could be the donkey wheel. Also an Ankh and some snakes and some other random stuff. Let us know what your thoughts on this are after the jump.
You can view any of the user requested images from tonight's episode in this thread. This week we have bizarro Claire, a Grocery Stock clerk, and Sawyer's little Clementine. Oh, and some pics of the 1977 Others and the Temple Richard takes Ben into.
In a lackluster episode for investigations (among other things) quite possible the best scene came at the very end and will undoubtedly have Lost fans speculating all week long. Richard is warned that he should consult Ellie because if Charles finds out he'll be angry. These few words imply so much in so little. First, we know for a fact that Charles and Ellie are both still there at this time. And second, this seems to confirm some kind of relationship between Ellie and Charles. Perhaps they are simply best friends, maybe lovers, or perhaps even brother and sister, but there seems to be a definite connection between the two. Personally, I'm voting for siblings. Follow the jump for the video clip.
Hurley and Miles started a new, special kind of friendship tonight that I hope we see more of in the future. Of course, it does make me worry for MIles a little. Afterall, people who come in contact with Hurley don't always fare so well. But in Whatever Happened, Happened there was some fantastic dialog between the two on the specifics of time travel. Hurley definitely represents many of the feelings the fans have had this season. Follow the jump for a clip of their time travel discussion from tonight.
After the jump are the user requested and miscellaneous images from tonight's episode. They include, the Cafeteria, Hurley's Dharma Cook Badge, Sayid's truth drug, the phonograph, the record on the phonograph, some Russian signage, and the tent in the woods.
So, in a very cliffhanger-ish style, tonight's episode ended with Sayid shooting Young Ben in the chest. The images after the jump show that the bullet wound appears to have penetrated extremely near to his heart. I seriously doubt that a young boy could normally survive a bullet wound of this nature, but something tells me Young Ben will be fine, somehow. Perhaps he is saved, or perhaps Locke wasn't the first person that the island has resurrected. Let us know your thoughts after the jump.
Tonight young Ben provided prisoner Sayid with a book titled A Separate Reality - by Carlos Castaneda published in 1971. The book is supposedly a non-fiction story where Castaneda claims he was under the apprenticeship of a self-proclaimed Yaqui Indian Sorcerer, Don Juan Matus. Whether or not the events in the book took place have been a subject of debate since it was published. However, its also interesting that the title of the book is A Separate Reality. Are the writers hinting that the losties are in an alternate reality, something we touched on in this discussion, or is the book nothing more than a red herring?
If you rewatch the scene where Christian takes Sun into the house, at the end of the scene, if you watch very closely, you'll notice that there is another woman in the room. At the very end, just after Christian says "You have a long road ahead of you," and it goes to a tight push in shot on Sun. Over Sun's shoulder you can clearly see a figure, that appears to be a blond female, move her head. So are we to believe that Claire was in the room with Christian?
Follow the jump for some more images.
Okay, so we hate to make it seem like anytime there's a small amount of smoke in an episode of Lost that it means that Smokey was there, but rewatching the scene where Christian opens the door in Othersville, there is obviously quite a bit of what looks like smoke behind him. Then, as they enter the house, the door opens to a strange squeaking sound and the smoke swirls through the rooom. So is this Smokey, and proof that somehow Smokey is involved in the Christian sightings? Or is this mearly a smoky room and the wind is blowing through the door, making it swirl? I, for one, think that its Smokey.
Follow the jump for a video and more images.
After the jump are the user requested images from Namaste. This week's images include baby Ethan, Christian, some monitor shots, a painting, the runway, and young Ben.
Sun, who is definitely in 2007, was shown a photo tonight by the enigmatic Christian Shepard. The photo was of the 1977 New Recruits at the Dharma Initiative and included Jack, Hurley, and Kate. Next we got to see the actual photo being taken in 1977. When comparing the photo Christian showed Sun to the actual event there appears to be a missing person from the actual 1977 event. Or is there? If you look, there appears to be a missing person on the back row, right side, next to the guy on the very end. In the photo Christian showed there is another man back there. However, on closer inspection it appears that the man may just be very very small. You can see a foot (circled in the image) sticking out at the very bottom of the second image on the next page. Judge for yourself, is this man just hiding, or is there a person missing from the actual event?
In tonight's episode we got to see a model of the Swan Station at the Flame, where future hatchmate Radzinsky was manning the controls. This brings a great deal into question, like why Radzinsky felt the need to create the blast door map in the first place, if he had prior knowledge of all of the other stations, and seems to have held a fairly high post within the Dharma Initiative. In addition, he seems to have created the Swan model, and it appears similar to the one we saw in the original Swan Orientation film. So what do you think about Radzinsky's Blast Door Map now?
The screen shot of the statue from tonight's episode along with the ankh necklace that Paul wore in the episode has turned up a strong connection to the Egyptian God Anubis. In fact, SWLS is saying that the four-toed statue IS in fact Anubis. Follow the jump to learn some more about Anubis, see some pics to help solidify that the statue is him, and to let us know what you think.
This is the place for this week's user requested and miscellaneous screen caps. They include a shot of the two Others that Sawyer kills, Sawyer's "La Fleur" Dharma Jumper, complete with "star" dharma logo, Jerry (one of the Dharma guys that had to wake up La Fleur), Rosie and her Geronimo Jackson t-shirt, the doctor who didn't want to deliver Amy's baby, a chess board, and Sawyer aka LaFleur's newest book.
Images are all after the jump.
Egyptian themes continue with Paul's Ankh necklace, seen in "LaFleur". We've already seen hieroglyphs, an egyptian-esque statue, Guyliner Alpert, and a character named Horace... what's will all the Egyptian nods? According to my good friend, Wiki, the symbol means "eternal life". That didn't seem to work out for Paul, but perhaps Guyliner took his body in order to resurrect him and then kill him a second time to make up for the death of two Others. Larger pic and comments after the jump.
A couple of episodes ago we got to see Charlotte explain to Daniel how a man scared her on the island as a child, telling her to leave and never come back. She thought that man was Daniel. Tonight, it seemed to plague Daniel, and he uttered more than once that he 'wouldn't tell her this time.' But the hardest moment for him by far came in the Dharma camp, when he actually spotted the future girl of his dreams as innocent as ever.
At long last we got a glimpse of what is assumed to be the four-toed statue tonight, but unfortunately we only got to see the back of it, and only for about 3 seconds. The pic is above and although it doesn't give a lot of description, early Egyptian connections scream from this. Especially when you consider other Egyptian items such as the hyroglypics and such. What do you think?? Could the Egyptians have gotten their knowledge from the original inhabitants of the island? Or was the island simply populated with early Egyptians?
Searching through the Hydra, Caesar comes across some old magazines. An Issue of LIFE dated April 19, 1954 catches his eye. The cover features an image of a Hydrogen Bomb exploding during a test. I suppose when a Hydrogen Bomb shows up on your island, it's good to do some research on the subject. Especially when some crazy guy from "the future" just tells you to bury it and everything will be fine. That issue also featured an article called "Julia in Jeopardy". Julia is Julia Adams (I believe), an actress in The Creature from the Black Lagoon - which the article reviewed, and of which we also see a pic of. The Black Lagoon being a "paradise that no one has ever returned from" could be seen as another thematic LOST reference. Also, as pointed out in the comments, the very same Julia Adams has appeared as an actress on LOST. Follow the jump for more!
This set of miscellaneous and user requested images from "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" include: The canoes at the Ajira crash site, Hurley's painting, Helen's grave, Sayid's Build Our World shirt, Locke's nurse board, Walt's school, Walt, the Hydra desk, and Locke's suicide note, just after he wrote it. Follow the link below to view the images and let us know what you think in the comments.
Caesar locates some files in The Hydra station that includes Dan Faraday's map and one of his journal pages concerning time travel. Also included is Rousseau's map. We've seen that Dan will eventually go to the Orchid station during Dharma's final days. Now, we also know he makes a trip to the Hydra (or someone takes his papers there, anyways). Those papers are still there 30 years later when Ajira 316 crashes on the island (if we assume the crash occurs in 2007). Now, let this blow your mind. Before Rousseau even begins drawing her map, before she even conceives of it, there is already a finished version of that map laying in the Hydra Station. Therefore, once she does draw her map, there are then two identical copies of it on the island. The same applies to Dan's map and his journal page. Take a look using the link below.
So, Locke's pseudonym was bestowed upon him by none other than Charles Widmore. Locke is given a new name, and a new passport to trek the globe with. According to the passport, Bentham is a Canadian, born in New York in 1948. Take a look after the jump.
Tonight we saw John Locke talking with Caesar, and the other survivors of Ajira flight 316. We saw from the wreckage of the plane that they crashed on the small island that houses the Hydra Station. The station appears to be abandoned, and if Locke and company are indeed in the same time as Jack, Kate, and Hurley, during Dharma's heyday, then why would the Hydra be abandoned. The answer, John Locke and company (including Frank and Sun) crashed on the present day island, while Jack, Kate, and Hurley "flashed" to the island's past.
This set of miscellaneous and user requested images from "316" include: A bloody Ben, Jack's eye, Dharma Jin, dead Locke, Locke's suicide note, Caesar, and Doubting Thomas. Follow the link below to view the images and let us know what you think in the comments.
Thematic literary references related to LOST often pop up in the show. In "316", we get a long glimpse of Hurley reading a spanish version of "Y: The Last Man". The story is about "the only man to survive the mysterious simultaneous death of every male mammal on Earth. " Find more HERE. We also see Ben reading James Joyce's Ulysses on the plane. "Almost every variety of human experience is crammed into the accordian folds of a single day, which makes Ulysses not just an experimental work but the very last word in realism. " More on that one, HERE. Pics after the jump.
There is a lot going on inside the Lamp Post room, as we find in 5x06, "316". The room is largely occupied by a giant pendulum which swings over a map. This is used in conjunction with a formula scribbled on chalkboards to find windows allowing passage to the island. This room was built long ago, and was used by Dharma to find the island. The room also includes a chart of latitudes and longitudes that is constantly updating. Also, taped to the chalkboard is a photo of the island from 1954 belonging to the US Army. Jack is given a book of printouts detailing flights, including the now infamous 316 the O6 need to be on to return to the island. See pics of all this by clicking the continue reading link below!
There is a quick scene in 5x05, "This Place is Death" that features Montan listening to a transmission of The Numbers on a radio. They make a plan to head to the radio tower to see if they can make use of the antenna to call for help. Those with sharp ears, however, recognized something familiar in the voice repeating 4 8 15 16 23 42 on the radio. Could it really be Hurley? Take a listen by clicking the Continue Reading Link below and let us know what you think in the comments section! Given Hurley's history with the numbers, and the incorporation of time travel into the fabric of LOST, it does make a certain sense. We've seen several times already, that events in the past happened because things were done involving time travel in the future that we previously weren't aware of. Could so much of what has now transpired on the island been due to Hurley himself broadcasting the numbers? Or, are people just hearing something that isn't there?
Yes, the title of this investigation does indeed sound like a new children's book set to hit the bookstores soon, but its nothing more than a reference in Lost. When the Orchid disappears before their eyes, Locke is forced to crawl down a Well that sits nearby in order to reach the donkey wheel of time travel.
We also got our first look at the mysterious Temple we've heard so much about in tonight's episode. We learn that the temple (which is where Montaun lost his arm) has similar looking Glyphs on the side of it as what was used on the countdown timer in the Swan Station (the hatch). This seems a little odd when you consider that the Temple is supposedly an ancient building that predates the Dharma Initiative, and the Swan Station was built in the 70s/80s. It is also possible speculation at this point that the Temple may be Smokey's home. I base this mostly on the connection with Ben, who seemed to be able to call Smokey to the slaughter last season, and also is the one who sent his people to the Temple for safety. Ben has referred to the Temple as "the last safe place on the island."
Smokey made his first full-fledged appearance in season 5 tonight, showing himself to Rousseau's team. First, poor Nadine disappears, and then when they look for her Smokey blows up some trees (ahh, just like old times) and grabs Montan. But what's more important is that we learn that Montan lost his arm while getting pulled down into a smokey hole. We also learn that what Danielle called the sickness was in regard to Smokey, and whatever he did to the rest of the team that went into the tunnel to rescue Montan. Anyone think Dr. Chang lost his arm in a similar accident?
More images after the jump.
Here are all of the other miscellaneous images and user requested images from tonight's episode. They include Christian Shepard, the beach camp, Montand's arm, Nadine, and the Orchid.
Follow the jump for all of the miscellaneous and user requested images. These images include Sayid's attacker at the hospital, Ben's Lawyer, Hurley in jail, the Skiffs, and Claire's mom.
In 5x04, "The Little Prince", Locke and company comes across some wreckage on the beach after flashing away from their high seas skiff chase. Locke kicks over a can which reads BESIXDOUZE. BE-SIX-DOUZE, or B612 (french) is the name of an asteroid. According to Wiki, the asteroid is named as a reference to... wait for it... "The Little Prince", who lived on an asteroid named B612. How cool is that? Pics and comments after the jump!
Sun receives a package at the hotel in 5x04, "The Little Prince". Inside the package is a gun hidden in chocolates, some photos of Jack and Ben at the funeral home, and several pages of Surveillance files. A close look at the files reveal they aren't related to anything on LOST at all. Or does it? An investigation into the text on the files has revealed that the source of the text originates from here. A very strange game site where users try to solve crimes set in the fictional county of Yaknapatawpha - which is created and used in the writing of William Faulkner. Is this more literary thematic references for us to dig up? Let us know what you think in the comments. Pictures after the jump.
Ben is scene driving a van that clearly says Canton-Rainier Carpet Cleaning on the side of it. Based on LOSTs love affair with anagrams its no surprise to us that Canton-Rainier is an anagram for Reincarnation. Is this actually a clue for us, or just a simple red herring?
Ajire Airways made an official appearance in LOST with Season 5's "The Little Prince". Ajira has been used in some of ABC's ARG marketing tie-in's and LOST promotions. Could Ajira be the Oceanic 6's ticket back to the island? Explore the site and let us know what you think in the comments section!
As the losties began to flash through time on the island, the inevitable question of whether or not they could run into themselves starting popping up everywhere. "The Little Prince" answered that, as Locke caught a far off glimpse of the hatch light they he caused, and Sawyer watched the birth of Aaron take place at near arm's length (where Kate was present). Follow the link below for images, and let us know what implications you think this revelation has in the comments section.
In 5x04, "The Little Prince", we find out Jin is alive! Somehow, he has traveled into the past to the late 80's, where he is rescued by Danielle Rousseau and her team! We finally get to meet the ill-fated Robert and Montaun in one of the best payoff scenes for long time LOST fans yet. Continue reading for pics!
There are quite a few user requested images and other miscellaneous images tonight, so take a gander and let us know if you see something we might have missed. Just follow the jump for all of the images.
Charles Widmore became an even more integral part of the Lost mythology last season when we discovered that he not only sent the Freighter people to the island, which he'd been searching for, but he was also a long time rival of Ben Linus. Tonight we learned yet another important historical element of Mr. Widmore, he was on the island in 1954, as an Other in Richard Alpert's group.
Daniel and company quickly realize that Richard and his band of Others have a big problem on their hands in the form of a hydrogen bomb. When Daniel is finally taken to the bomb, we see that the episode shares the name with the bomb, Jughead. Daniel has to quickly tell Ellie (his mom) that they need to bury the bomb to avoid destroying the island before he flashes to another time. But did you know that there was a real nuclear test code-named Jughead that took place in 1954? Follow the jump for more info.
Ever since last week when a time traveling Daniel Faraday told in-the-past Desmond to go find his mom, many have been speculating that his mother was the infamous Ms. Hawking. After all, they both share a love for chalkboards and math, so why not make the connection. Well, tonight we got some fairly solid proof that our suspicions were correct.
If you watched the repeat of 5x02 tonight, at the end when Ms. Hawking is shown, the popup message at the bottom of the screen identifies her as Eloise Hawking. This is the first time we've been given her first name.
Following the continue reading link below is a selection of interesting images from 5x02, "The Lie". These include a second look at Ana Lucia, who returned in a cameo ghost / illusion / island manifestation appearance to Hurley; the gunman who intercepts Sawyer and Juliet in the jungle - possibly AstroJones; Aaron's coloring book; Expose; and a flaming frogurt.
Ben, looking for a place to stash Locke's body, heads (where else) to a local Butcher Shop. He is greeted by Jill, who apparently is in on Ben's plan to get back to the island with the Oceanic Six. Is Locke's corpse really going to be sitting in the freezer at a butcher shop? Not a very pleasant thought, but I'm sure Locke wouldn't mind. More pics from the meat shop following the link below.
Click the images below to enlarge.
The mysterious elderly shop-keep we met in Desmond's excellent adventure seasons past returned tonight's episode, "The Lie". This time, we see Hawking (Jedi styled) working on some math problems in the basement of an old church. There's also a giant pendulum thing drawing marks on a map, which is duplicated on a Dharma-esque computer. It looks like she is hard at work finding a way back to the island for Ben and company. More detailed images found by click the continue link below.
This is the compass that Richard gives to Locke. Locke is known to have had at least 2 compasses on the island in the past, but this compass appears to not be one of those. This compass does, however, appear to be the exact same compass that Richard showed to a young Locke last season when he did the test on him.
Tonight we managed to get a few shots of Daniel's Journal again. Several of the pages look similar to the ones we saw last year, and they mostly appear to contain equations.
Tonight, we got to see Pierre Chang venture into the Orchid, back during the Dharma heyday when the Orchid was still being constructed. It seems an accident happened when they hit the chamber where the frozen donkey wheel resides. The images after the jump are the sonar imaging of that chamber and the donkey-wheel. There appear to be lots of numbers on the paper, but they are meaningless and random as far as I can tell. IF you see something we don't, let us know!
Season 5 started with another Desmond in the hatch type of scene. Groovy music, old 70's stuff, and PIerre Chang, aka Marvin Candle getting out of bed and going about his day (okay, so that last part wasn't in the season 3 opener, technically). He goes into a room where a baby, we assume his baby, is smiling in the crib.
So why is this important or relevant you may ask? Because it makes one wonder if Baby Chang was born on the island. Was this prior to when the island had an issue with pregnancy?
