5x15: Locke, beside himself

lost_5x15_locke_looking_self.jpgThe Locke we saw tonight was certainly a different John Locke than we're used to seeing. Tonight he was assertive, confident, sure of himself, and most of all, he had a plan and a purpose...oh, and a pig. Locke took Richard and Ben to go find himself at the beechcraft, give himself the compass, and give himself the instructions that he knew he'd need in order to fulfill the remainder of his destiny. Kinda weird, huh? I know many of you are screaming paradox, but I hate that word, so I'll be referring to it as spontaneous happenstance from now on. To see the scene again, follow the jump!

No paradox created last night with Locke. It is a time loop which forms a complete unbreaking circle. This is not a paradox.

LOL, chucklmiller

Actually, richard doesn't wear eyeliner, those are just his natural lashes. They actually told him in auditions that they did not like the makeup, and he had to explain that those were just his eyes.

Also, funny you bring this theory up now of all times, I believe the fact that Richard was playing with a 'ship in a bottle' implies that he had some sort of sea faring connection. And judging by the model ship, I believe it is linked more with the Black Rock and not with Egypt.

GBlab, I've thought about that. John is so very confident now. But unlike Christian, he appears to a large group of people at once. He is very REAL on the island. Not a manifestation. But Christian has something to do with all this.

I'll join the realm of strange ideas - although I'm not 100% sure where this is going...

Christian was dead, in a coffin, on a plane that crashed on the island. He has since been a "manifestation" of sorts, speaking to certain folks, interacting, etc.

John was dead, in a coffin, aboard a plane that crashed on the island. Is he a similar manifestation with the ability to speak, interact, etc? Even Ben doesn't understand how/why John is alive.

Christian always seems to have an air of confidence; cool, calm, collected. John's character has acted eerily similar this season.

I really don't know what this could mean, but the similarities hit me last night. Just putting it out there.

I may be completely goofy (which is fine), but I've been having fun forming my own theories. Could it be possible that Jacob had always been Locke--from a different time.....Locke has always felt a special connection with the island. I don't know. Food for thought, I guess....not a lot of food mind you :)

Is it just me (which is probably the case)or has anyone noticed that there doesn't seem to be any old Others? Richard is the only one that stays young but if the Others that were with him in the 70's were still on the island they would look like Ellie and Widmore and I haven't noticed any Others close to their age or any Elder Others in the 70's or the 50's time periods. So where are they going and where are the younger ones coming from?

New member...LOOONG time reader. I had to join because my desire to comment is just too strong at this point. Here goes.

Ancient Egyptians wore eyeliner.
Richard wears eyeliner.
Richard is "timeless". Therefore...

RICHARD IS AN ANCIENT EGYPTIAN.

Anybody with me on this?

This situation is too weird. They have to fully explain the time travel issue in order for this stuff to not suck. Last week they almost made it seem to make sense as to why they might not have a paradox, but last night's episode created one, right in front of our eyes.

seriously, how did Locke know when this all took place? Is he the new Jacob and the island is telling him to off Jacob?

Locke asked for the "rusty" compass from Richard, but then gave it back to him before he sent Richard off to take the bullet out of his leg. Two Lockes = Too Confusing

BostonTom, you just hurt my brain! But that's something I never thought about before!

I think you've got it mixed up, BadRobot. I thought Richard gave Locke the compass in 2009, then Locke gave the same compass to Richard in 1954. Richard held on to it for 55 years, then gave it to Locke in 2009, rinse, repeat.

The one thing I wonder about, Richard said he still had the compass but it was now rusty (though she still points north). When Locke gave it to Richard back in 1954, was it still rusty? Is it just getting more rusty as the loop goes on and on and on? Or when Locke flashes back to 1954 did the compass revert to it's "original" 1954 condition and appear newer and clean?

anyone notice that present day Richard has the compass to give to locke... when locke asks for it back... but when Locke saw himself... the time skipping locke gave richard the compass back... so now Richard has two compasses, both being the same one... or am i wrong?
