"Follow the Leader" ended on quite a dramatic and shocking note tonight as Locke revealed to Ben that he wasn't going to see Jacob to reunite with his people. He was going to see Jacob to kill him. Why? Well, your guess is as good as ours, but at this point the stock answer seems to be "The island told me to do it." What was even more interesting was how troubled Richard seemed to be about taking Locke, and the others to Jacob. It almost made me wonder if Ben wasn't the one originally keeping Jacob locked up (remember when Locke first saw Jacob and he whispered, "save me" to him?). What if Richard has played a part in keeping Jacob locked up as well. And what's more, am I the only one who thought that the island and Jacob were one in the same, or linked together in some way? Okay guys at first I thought jacob was jack but I'm 90% sure its this actor who will play jacob
I can't understand the Kate haters, either. She's still one of the coolest characters on the show and there's much to be admired about her. She's also done some very bad things, too, and seems poised to throw a big wrench in the works, probably at some crucial point that foul everything up, though she will be well-meaning.
2 things to remember with her is that she has never trusted John Locke - I would bet that will come into play - and that she is probably the only person on the 815 flight who didn't want to land in Los Angelos. However, now Locke (and Rose & Bernard - where are they?) would not want to erase the recent past either, so that could put Kate on Locke's side this time. But in the last episode she accused Jack of sounding like Locke... Oh, the twists and turns...
Sweetdom,
Whatever happened to Patchy? Maybe this mystery man will be him.
Slightly off-topic: Not to get all up in the grills of the Kate-haters, but with the ebb and flow of the various characters' development on the show, this could just be the writers playing you. I like that Kate went from seemingly unrepentant bad-girl, to helpful/caring sidekick and love triangle focus, to tormented mother, and now to confused island lover/hater. I look forward to what comes next for all the characters! Play me, lost writers, for I do not want to know what is to come! I want the surprise!
Jacob/Aaron maybe?

Thats why Jack is so Important
We did see Jacob in a previous episode sitting in the rocking chair. It was just for a brief nano second but this wonderful site captured it so we could all see it.
So John has seen AND heard Jacob which is more than Ben can say.
Since John no longer has any concern about Ben or what Ben thinks or does, then any information John gives to Ben is either for amusement or to further John's plan.
Of course if Ben is Jacob that could account for his being so startled!!!!!
: )
If john was older jack when Christian said tell my son hello, john would not have asked "who's your son"
Kate needs to go. I've come to a point where I believe Kate is a bigger threat to the Losties than the Smoke Monster.
On his way to go see Jacob, John should go knock off Kate real quick and do us and them a favor.
I think if he did that, then everyone would all of the sudden get along. The other's would be like "Well, now that Kate is gone, I guess y'all aren't so bad after all."
The Dharma Initiative would all of the sudden realize that they are encroaching on the natives and instead lease the land they use, with a timetable to leave by 2012.
The Other's would agree and invite everyone to the temple where they now have a pool table where the H bomb used to be. And all, including Widmore, find out that the smoke monster cooks up some mean Fajita tacos. "kiss the cook"!
All of this because Kate is gone.
Ok, so maybe it wouldn't work so perfect, but she really is annoying.
dharma_waffle: THANK YOU for agreeing that Kate is just a total selfish twit. She's erratic and immature and I was so happy when they almost shot her this week. I cheered until my husband pointed out that the shot was made from Sayid to an Other. DARN!
And here it is, Sawyer is finally happy with someone and moving on, and here she is again to spoil everything!! ARGH!
So following on from what westy has said about the names, is Jack the younger version of John??? that's why they disagree all the time as John wants to do things differently this time around then when he was here when he was Jack-younger???
ow, my head hurts! This program is so confusing hope reveal all insignificant questions
oh just thought I would say too, that Teresa from last weeks episode had a very similar accent and look to Charlotte, so maybe sisters???
dharma_waffle, great theory. Jack could stand for Jacob.
It's always bothered me that no one has seemed to notice that Jack is usually a nickname for John. It used to be that no one would name a boy Jack, or Jimmy, Will, or Eddie, etc., but now this is becoming common. I know men/boys with all of these names. But even Jack's mother calls him Jack and we've seen lots of flashbacks with Jack in many contexts and never a mention of anything other than Jack.
We know that the writers like to play with names and don’t shirk at having main characters (Charles, Charlie, and Charlotte) with the same or similar names. I think I’ve offered suggestions here that Jack and John represent twin sides of human nature, ala “man of science, man of faith,” and their names hint that they are two sides of the same person. Now Jack and John are again coming to the forefront of the story and I would like to see that the names of these men with seemingly the same name come into play somehow. A Jacob connection would be even better.
I always had a feeling that Jacob was Walt or had something to do with him. He was so important in the first couple of seasons and when Ben shot Locke it was Walt that he saw, and this all after the cabin incident. I don't think that so much now but I am having a hard time wrapping my head around Jack being Jacob too. But with LOST anything is possible.
dharma_waffle, YES Kate is to annoying to handle. Of course she wants Jack to fail because if he succeeds she spend the rest of her life in prison. I hope he succeeds.
dharma_waffle, I agree with you. I have a small post with my friends who watch and stated today that I believe Jacob to be Jack. I've come to that conclusion thru different means, but I do agree. Is it easily refutable - yes. But, I see him emerging as a leader again, which is what Jacob is, right?
P.S. The show begins with Jack, it would only be fitting for it to end with Jack. Prefereably coming out as Jacob, so I can tell my wife I told you so. And because as you all know getting a theory right on LOST is kind of like winning the lottery. :0P
Why does John want till Jacob. Well, he doesn't. But I think he wants Ben to think so. Flow with me for a sec.
One minute he's agreeing with Richard about Locke. The next he's telling Locke about it. He is playing both sides as he normally does with everyone. Such is his nature. John was probably told by the island that Ben has to follow him "or else". So to get rid of Ben through no fault of his own. He is telling Ben this so that Ben could go against Locke, (thinking he's doing the right thing, besides killing Locke has the plus side of him becoming leader again) But at the moment that he will try to kill Locke, Locke will spoil his plan and in his cool "know it all" manner, say, "You didn't really think I was gonna kill Jacob did you?" Cue the smoke Monster and or Alex, Ben is toast!
The rules of stories, movies, and shows are usually always the same. If you get a, bigger badder bad guy (like Jacob), then the old mostly vanquished bad guy must go (like Ben). I think Ben's time is about up.
I'm pretty set on this theory. I was telling my wife last night, I think that there's a 20% chance that we've seen Jacob before. 80% he's someone new. Out of that 20% chance (here comes my far fetched theory) a small 1% chance may be that Jacob is actually Jack. Oh yeah! I said it. :0)
Just think about it. The show is about Jack, (it has been decreasingly about him, but he's coming back)
Q: When the plane crashes, who get's to come back to life? A: Jack's dad.
Q: Who out of all the Losties hangs out with Jacob and Christian? A: Jack's sister Claire
Q: First season who are the others obsessed with getting? A: Aaron, Jack's nephew.
I wouldn't be surprised if we find out that Jack is short for his real name "Jacob".
How could have jacob been in charge this whole time? Well, we have the "time travel" factor that can anser that. For some reason we may find out that Jack is stuck in some kind of Time warp in the future and has been ordering around and orchestrating everything, in irder that he might be released, thus the "Help me"
Ok, so no hate mail, please. It's just a thought. :) Does anyone else HATE KATE now? I can't stand her anymore!!!
Can I just say that I am LOVING Locke in this season?! I felt that when our Losties first crashed on the island, Locke had it all figured out. He was the man of the hour who seemed to know everything. Over the seasons, his faith has wavered and he became very weak.
Now, he's back and he means business!!
Locke is good. If he's going to kill Jacob, it's either for the greater good, or like Ozma says, it's figurative.
I can't wait!!!
Ozma: WOW! You could be on to something here. Since when is John Locke a mean person? Why would he want to kill in a malicious sort of way? I don't think he would. That's not like him. He is going to kill Jacob to "help" him!
Ben "killed" Locke and he was resurrected on the island. Is Locke going to "kill" Jacob to free him? Is that the only way he could help him?
Ben has never seen Jacob, nor even talked to him. Locke got that much out of him in this episode. Clearly, Ben is, and always has been, the Wizard, the fake behind the curtain. Ben is not in charge and never has been. However, we do know that the Jacob entity is in need of help. He is somehow imprisoned. He asked Locke for help. This is not Ben's doing, but it could be Richard's.
I've thought for sometime that Richard is the one actually pulling the strings. He has managed to choose people who would follow his gentle "suggestions". By something he knew about in the temple, he manages to heal young Ben. He tells him about Jacob, but Ben just uses the name to con the others into thinking he is the leader. Widmore is a violent man, not a thinker, and easily controlled. He wants power and Richard gives it to him. Locke seems to be his next patsy and does what Richard says - at least before his resurrection.
Richard is clearly disturbed and surprised by this new Locke. This was unexpected and unwelcome. The island is operating without him.
It was Richard who convinced both Ben and Locke to kill their fathers. Could the Jacob entity be Richard's father? Perhpas Locke has to kill him to free him. Who would know better than the man who has been killed and is now completely free and himself? Notice that he doesn't tell Richard of his intent.
One other note, I was thinking that the Jacob entity and Christian were the same, but I am not so convinced now. It may be that the actually spirit of the Island is Christian (see and talked to by Locke as well as Sun & Ben)and that Jacob is something or someone else entirely.
My own crackpot theory: there is no Jacob, at least physically. We've seen the island use various forms to communicate with people on the island, from Christian to Nemi to Kate's horse, and Jacob is another of these vessels.
When Locke says he is going to kill Jacob, he doesn't mean it literally. He means he is going to show the people that there is no Jacob, thereby killing the idea that they need to follow the orders of this mysterious person they've never seen.
point place you should really mark that as SPOILER! hahaha
...actually,...Jacob said "Help Me"
wait...the island told Favre to come out of retirement? dammit! I wish the island would quit doing that.
I think the Island told Brett Favre to come out of retirement again...oh and also Locke to kill Jacob so when Jack Blows up Dharmaville Smokey will be summoned to battle 4 toed Egyptian statue that makes the Island disappear forever.
I was thinking like you there was a connection. I have a theory that there is a 'trinity' of how the island manifests itself: a 'father' manifest in Jacob/Christian, a 'son' manifest in Richard, and a 'spirit' manifest as Smokey. (See http://rob.orangejack.com/2009/04/05/my-island-lost-trinity-theory/)
Now I don't know what to think!
Oh man! I totally freaked out when I heard this! Maybe Bram and Ilana are on the island to help get rid of Jacob too?
