One of the best parts about the experience of LOST, is talking about a new episode after it airs with other fans, coworkers, family members, friends, and random people you know via the web that follow the show. In this segment, we've decided to give you an inside look into the chats Astro and I engage in after each episode. It's not focused, and definitely unscripted - but we hope it is at least entertaining, sometimes insightful, and perhaps provides an interesting glimpse behind the curtain here at SWLS. Click the "continue" link below to delve into the madness.
The following conversation took place in the late hours of the night and next morning after the airing of Namaste.
Sledgeweb: Ok, just putting the map up, what's up?
Astro: The map is just a map of the swan station, right
Sledgeweb: Yeah, see GEODOME. That's all i see that i can make out. Maybe RAMP and PANTRY. Don't see anything great in there like "JUGHEAD BURIAL SITE"... I assume it is suppose to be the exact same model seen in the Dharma video... unless they piece together multiple verisons of these models for some reason.
Astro: I find it interesting that Radzinsky seemed to think they could dig a giant hole in the ground and install a Dharma station there without the hostiles finding out what they were doing. But who knows
Sledgeweb: yeah, man Radzinsky was a let down if you ask me... I mean, we've been waiting for him for a LONG time... we needed to get someone more like Patchy or something... and, speaking of, when are we going to get to a younger Patchy?
Astro: I know, I wasn't paying attention when they first said Radzinsky, I just heard flame and thought it would be Patchy. Then it registered
Sledgeweb: so, what about the barracks being a wreck in 2008?
Astro: 2007
Sledgeweb: well, one or the other
Astro: lol. yeah, beats me. maybe the hostiles came back for supplies
Sledgeweb: it looked like the Others had never occupied it
Astro: well, maybe they just stayed out of that one building.
Sledgeweb: yeah, but why would they do that? i mean, they were living there... just seemed odd.
Astro: well, what's the other alternative? that history was changed somehow
Sledgeweb: that they are on 1985B
Astro: alternate timeline?
Sledgeweb: yeah, but I hope not
Astro: yeah, I don't think so. But its possible.
Sledgeweb: well, Sawyer had an interesting line... he said something like "Faraday has a pretty good idea on what we can change, and what we can't" ... something to that effect so it seems they can change some things.
Astro: see, I just took that to be Sawyer's interpretation of how they can be in Dharma without changing things. To Sawyer, it probably seems like he's changing things. But Daniel knows that nothing is happening that hasn't always happened.
Sledgeweb: I don't know I'm on the fence on that, because, as we've said, obviously they have to try to change something at some point
Astro: agreed. But I think that point is further off. I don't know, maybe we see something change by the season finale, but I don't think before that at all. And possibly not until next year
Sledgeweb: The runway was sweet though, we called that one (but there were skeptics). As soon as the episode started back in the plane, I said "runway!"
Astro: yeah, I wonder when they finished the runway though? I guess they could have been working on it before Jack and crew got there though
Sledgeweb: yeah, there is still one group that we don't know what they have been up to... the people that were with Alpert.... they will have supposedly been on the island 3 years in normal time doing stuff (while Sawyer's group spent three years in the 70's and the Oceanic 6 were off island).
Astro: oh true. its also interesting to wonder how Alpert knew to build the runway in the first place
Sledgeweb: after a year of sitting around at the temple "Hey, anyone want to go work on that runway?"
Astro: lol.
Sledgeweb: and, if they did go back and occupy that little island again, where are they now? also, what ever hapened to the rest of the lostiest? are we to assume they were killed by the others in the 50's? (i mean rose, bernard, redhsirts, etc)
Astro: yeah, I was just wondering about that same thing. they couldn't be wandering the jungle for the last 3 years
Sledgeweb: maybe they hooked up with the others somehow. Widmore did say "killed or captured"... maybe they were captured by the others in the 50's, and then flashed through time, and still ended up with the others...
Astro: then shouldn't there be a really old Rose and Bernard with the 2007 Others?
Sledgeweb: if they made it that long
Astro: maybe rose and bernard are Adam and Eve. they lived out their lives in the rape caves
Sledgeweb: lol. maybe. "Rose, you wanna go live in the rape caves?"
Rose and Bernard Nadler
1 Rape Cave Rd.
Craphole Island.
Astro: lol
Sledgeweb: next week's preview didn't really excite me. I hope we get back to locke soon.
Astro: Oh, I thought next week looked pretty good. But I would like to see locke again
Sledgeweb: yeah, i hope its good... just wasn't thrilled by the preview... too much Sayid.
Astro: its ok. He might die this season. lol.
Sledgeweb: you think Kate will?
Astro: naaa. I think Kate sawyer and jack are safe and I have a hard time imagining Ben getting killed, but I still think its an option
Sledgeweb: kate's character hasn't really done anything important in a long time.
Astro: true. But she's still the object of Jack and Sawyer's affection.
Sledgeweb: yeah, maybe... Jack at least. Sawyer seemed ok with things for now.
Astro: I mean, at this point, if they kill her, they have no romantic tension in the show.
Sledgeweb: well, Juliet liked Jack...
Astro: yeah, but he was always into Kate. Even Juliet knew that
Sledgeweb: yeah but, there's always Kris Kristoferson... you know how HE swings. and whatever Christian and Claire are doing in that Cabin all that time. "Wanna go see the donkey wheel again, Claire?"
Astro: lol. true. so where do you stand on the Christian part of it? is it really him, and he came back to life, like Locke? Or is he a manifestation of the island
Sledgeweb: well, I tend to think manifestation... but, the line about "tell my son hello", seems to indicate there is still part of Christian there. But, I don't think it's strictly a reanimation of his body... I mean, he has the ability to appear and vanish I think, so it's more spectral... but I think he can make himself tangible as well. But, maybe it is actually using Christian's physical body, and is just able to teleport and things like that... but, to answer your question, I don't think it is just Christian awakened and doing things on his own. I think something has joined with him.
Astro: yeah, I've never once left the manifestation camp. But I am having a harder time believing he's not alive.
Sledgeweb: but why Christian? there are other dead bodies around, why does it appear as Christian?
Astro: because the fans respond well to christian. lol.
Sledgeweb: yeah, i'm beginning to think that Christian is almost like a host and servant to Jacob. Like the keymaster and gatekeeper in ghostbusters. they still have there own identity, but they are doing the bidding of someone else.
Astro: my honest feeling is that all of the theories and talk and refusal to believe that Christian was dead made Darlton say "hey, instead of casting someone new as Jacob, why don't we just have Christian be Jacob in some weird way that nobody can explain or understand."
Sledgeweb: lol. it's a tough call. on one hand, you do have a missing body. on the other hand, we have seen other people appear on the island and off the island... Walt, Ecko, Ana Lucia, etc. So, we know manifestatons are in play
Astro: exactly. I agree though that it could be some mixture of the two
Sledgeweb: But, can there be both? manifestations, and also a physical body being used? yeah, maybe, also, remember that Alpert wanted the body... so, maybe there is something to bodies too...
Astro: well, maybe smokey took the body and is somehow able to use the physical body, laying in his cave, to manifest Christian to everyone
Sledgeweb: it probably ties into all the "underworld" themes... the bodies, the manifestations, etc. BTW, i'm pretty convinced the person behind Sun is a crew member on a computer playing minesweeper
Astro: lol
Sledgeweb: it is strange. i'm really wondering if it is a mistake or not.
Astro: that was my wife's first comment. I told her no way, but secretly I wondered the same thing
Sledgeweb: only because, i can sort of see the white mark which i initially saw as playing cards, as white letters on a t-shirt or something like that (a graphic T) which would not be what a LOST character would be wearing, if it were claire or someone... but, it's too hard to say for certain what it is. but, for now, I'm still going with it being Claire... bored with tagging along on another one of Dr. Crazies missions... sitting in the back - sweeping some mines, waiting for him to finish being enigmatic.
Astro: lol
Sledgeweb: Claire: "let's go back to the cabin and look at the dog picture some more"
Astro: and of course, it wouldn't REALLY be Emily de Ravin, since they didn't pay her for any scenes this season. It would just be some blond who is supposed to be Claire.
Sledgeweb: yeah. well, she won't be a regular this season, but she could be featured in an episode or two
Astro: yeah, but I thought I read that she wouldn't be seen at all this year. Could be wrong though
Sledgeweb: yeah, i don't know the details... i heard she is still under contract, so she will be back for season 6. but, I'm not sure if they will use her at all this season. I could see it being beneficial to give her a scene or two, maybe in the finale if they can build it up... right now, seeing Claire isn't really that big of an AHA! because we don't really know what is going on with her anyways... but if they could build it up, where seeing Claire would be a bigger deal, then maybe....
Astro: yeah, true
Sledgeweb: New series end theory... Jack and Kate go to the donkey wheel one last time, turn it... and end up in the Garden of Eden at the beginning of creation, and it turns out, they are the real adam and eve...
Astro: lol
Sledgeweb: God shows up and is about to create male and female, and then sees them and is like WTF? Jack and Kate, shrugging sheepishly "Donkey wheel!". God... "Ho ho ho!"
Astro: lol.
Sledgeweb: and cut to black. THE END. But, i really want a CLUE ending to LOST.
Astro: where there are 3 or 4 endings. lol.
Sledgeweb: the two hour series finale should just be multiple endings of LOST.
Astro: that would rule
Sledgeweb: "It could have happened like that, but here's what really happened..." "Kidding! We wouldn't do that to you, it ended like this..." "No? You don't like that one? Ok, what if this happened..."
Astro: lol See, I like that
Sledgeweb: me too I want some funny stupid endings, dang it!
Astro: Personally, I'd like to see a Spaceballs ending
Sledgeweb: hrm, i don't remember how spaceballs ended?
Astro: Ben and Widmore crash land on the planet of the apes and they see them and say "Oh shit, there goes the planet" the apes say that
Sledgeweb: lol. so, how are we going to do this Ben Beat-Down montage video?
Astro: I'm not sure how we'd do the Ben beat-down
Sledgeweb: HERE. (if you weren't familiar with the song for the montage) i can do the video, if we can figure out where all the scenes are of ben getting beat up. i wonder if someone has a list [HELP US OUT READERS!]
Astro: lol. dude this song is perfect
Sledgeweb: it's almost perfect, if it wasn't about a specific girl but i think it works
Astro: did Ben appear in season 2?
Sledgeweb: yeah, as the prisoner, right? henry gale?
Astro: yeah
Sledgeweb: there's a lot of abuse there lol
Astro: lol. Yep.
Sledgeweb: do you have the dvds?
Astro: well, I have season 2 on DVD, so I could look through them for scenes of him getting bloodied but I don't have season 3 or 4
Sledgeweb: k. i think i have all of 3 and 4 recorded on my media center, would have to check though. definitely all of 4. i think the hard part is just figuring out where all the scenes are of him getting beat up
Astro: even that shouldn't be too hard he gets beaten at least 80% of the time
Sledgeweb: lol.
Astro: ok, I need to go to bed. I have to get up early
Sledgeweb: k. me too. later
Astro: later

Hord, I was just thinking the same thing. When Sawyer and Kate were in captivity they were working on a runway.
Sledge, Astro, you two seem to be trucking down the same theory trail I have had for a few months. Think "MEMENTO" here.
Christian is an enigma right now, but if you reverse the plot line, and the pilot episode 1x01 is actually the END OF THE SHOW, then it all makes sense that Christian would have completed Richard Alpert's 50 year task of reassembling all the key people to "accidentally" crash onto the island, so that the prophesy could be fulfilled ("Whatever happened, happened").
The big events in the island's history are still a vague, but as the series comes to a close we are slowly learning that our original LOSTies are intrinsic to the island "events", which Alpert must see that all the mechanics are in place to get to the end/beginning, so that the loop is complete ala Ellie Hawking's Ouroboros (self-eating serpent).
This is just my theory on the plot-vehicle, and fortunately for me doesn't wreck any of the surprises the producers and writers have in store for us with the revelations of how these "events" took/take place. You guys like?
The Runway - Isn't that the same one Juliet had Kate and Sawyer work on when they were captured? it's in the same place they took them too - the other island.
